  • overclock G400 Max ?

Well MAX is as suitable for overclock as any other card... Just slide it up for a notch and see how it performs... You could, as a precaution, install a better fan instead of the original one... to get some idea what you can do read this thread http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum5/HTML/007275.html

You should be able to tell relatively quickly when you go too far: all sorts of white lines and dots on your desktop. Just experiment with different settings, moving it up in small increments until you notice trouble (or you start becoming uncomfortable ).

durango: your o/c settings are just BS !

Run a banche with 415/167/208 and 360/160/180 f.e. and you will see the lower one is faster!

the g400 is cheating on you ! HAHAHAHA

              overclock G400 Max ?

I was thinking about overclocking my G400 Max with Matrox own overclocker, but since i have a MAX card i dont know how high i dare to go i have seen pics of ppl dragging the slider 25 % up but was that with a Max or a vanilla ? And dare i overclock it without xtra cooling ?

                O.K. Athlet,
after reading your post, I was worried you were right so I spent 1-1/2 HOURS running many tests (3dmark99max, Q2, Q3, UT, sandra) in many different rez' and to my surprise, the scores ranged from 8-12% HIGHER with my settings along with manual duty cycle setting which I've found to help muchly

                  ok, i was wrong.
that's what i heared wrom some people.
                  sorry

but how did you get your g400 non-max that high ? i have 3 fans (one of them is 8cm) and heatsinks on my RAM and CORE and i cant get it higher than 161 CORE and 192 RAM (it runs stable with 197 RAM, but i get funny dots on textures). My case sooling is good, but maybe i could do some improvement there.

So: how did you get your g400 THAT high ?
                  btw, i have a g400 16Mb SH.

PS. My system temperature is a at 26-28 °C and my CPU (k7-500) is a 30-32°C.

no prob, I fabricated a "port" for my hdd and cpu out of very thin aluminum sheetmetal so that the heat from them doesn't stay in the case but gets blown right out, I installed a Tennmax detonator cooler on the g400 chip (after removing the h.s.) then chopped up the heatsink and fragtaped the pieces to the memory (both sides), next comes the "blo-hole" (tm someone else) so fresh air is pumped right at the vid card with a slot cooler pulling the old air out, and lastly a very small heatsink fragtaped to the rear of the chip/pcb with a 486 fan blowing at it, I gotta get a digital camera if you hold your hand at the back of my case it'll get toasty from the hot air being pumped out
i can get it to 425 but the artifacts start and I really don't want to fry it before the g800's come out

at default settings, set your multipliers and apply, then disable the "auto" setting, you can now adjust your fo higher and have it actually notice it, the pdf file with MGATweak does a real good job at explaining how it works
