  • HOW CAN I FIX THIS DAMN PLAID DEATH CRAP ON MY G400MAX!

I'm very upset! I have had nothing but problems and headaches from this matrox g400 max. all it wants to do is display plaid colors or lines of pixels that constantly fill the screen and lock up the computer, crash constantly when cold booted. I have tried 5.30, 5.41, 5.50, but none work! HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!!!!
I feel like pulling out the card and snaping it in half!"*CRACK*""HAHAHAHAHAHA...LETS SEE YOU DISPLAY MULTI COLORS NOW!!!" but that would be just stupid since i paid $250. Also I was wondering why there is no BIOS startup for the g400...my voodoo in my old computer shows card type and memory stuff when computer is booted up...why not g400?

    JUST SO YOU KNOW:
1.There are not any IRQ conflicts!

2.Card runs stable when busmastering disabled but cant play in opengl...then when cold booted crashes.

3.OPENGL locks up, displays garbled screen.

    4.Crashes appear randomly

    5. have already tried the registry hacks.

    6. have tried matrox tweak utility.

    7. I pulled every damn card out and left just matrox in but no luck of course!

    8. tried extra cooling but no luck.

    9. did driver updates for other devices(including bios\drivers for g400 max).

    10. agp apature(whatever its called)set to 64MB

    SYSTEM SPEC's:
    Kryotech 800Mhz Athlon
    MS-6167 Mainboard
    Soundblaster live
    dvd6x/dxr3 card
    hp cd-r/rw
    lan card
    128MB pc-100
And of course the g400 max

    ********************************************
IF IT COMES TO IT I WILL SELL AND BUY A VOODOO 5 IN 3MONTHS WHEN RELEASED.

maybe your AGP divider is set to 1/1 and it runs to high. Check your bios for AGP divider settings...
    Or
try to user the Matrox pduninstall util when you switch drivers
    And
Check your vid ram cache settings...maybe the Kyrotech settings give some conflicts...

    Nice rig!!

    good luck
    Hope it works

The only thing my bios allows is to change L2 cashe settings... or various options on shadowing. I have been uninstalling the drivers before installing new ones. Some times thats the only way I can boot up on a cold boot. What utility will let me check the cache settings for the g400?

        Trying again over here huh.....LOL

OK, Matsux, calm down a bit because this IS NOT a Matrox sponsored web site so people here have a low tolerance to rants and flames.

I just helped a friend fix almost identical problems on a K7 system but with a TNT2 card.
It turned out his PC133 was bad. Is it possible to borrow a PC100 or PC133 DIMM from someone to check this??? It's worth a try.

Also, what video card was in your system originally??? It's possible there are still remnants of these drivers in the registry.

Since you still have problems with all other cards removed from your system it sounds like a software conflict or some other hardware sucjh as system memory or possibly your power supply.

One other quick thing would be to reseat the G400 and make sure it is not lifting out of the AGP slot when you tighten the screw.

So, calm down Man......You've just found the BEST technical support possible. Show these people on our Forum a bit of respect and they'll bust their Asses to help you.....

I forgot to mention this. Set your AGP aperature to 128 or 256 in your system Bios.

Wanting to figure out what the problem is...that's understandable. Acting like a prick will get you nowhere though.

This IS a user based forum. That DOES NOT entitle you to bitching rights. Your frustration is understandable, but don't take it out on us. Your threads will start disappearing if you don't stop ragging on the forums members.

Ok, so removeing all cards and reformating eliminates old driver conflicts. Go borrow someones memory and try that.

If you can, throw the card in someone elses system to see if it works.

Look matroxsuxs, you pompous loser. Read the sugestions people give you. SO you took out all the cards. The AGP divider is usually a jumper you boob. And taking out the cards means shit. Take out the memory like people sugested you try. Also, since you are runnign an very overclocked system, clock it at the normall speed. Any issues you may have, bitch at Kryotech. I bet you never thought of that did you you putz? maybe they know something you dont? but noooo. Lets be an ass on a forum so we can annoy other people that migth actually try to help if you wher epolite. bah screw it. Die, piss off, and other ethnic ways to say bugger off and sut up.

It is sometimes difficult to get the G400 properly seated in the AGP slot. It looks like it's in perfectly, but sometimes the plate on the PCB that you attach to your case is just a little bent. Push the plate all the way in, and sometimes the back of the board lifts slightly from the back of the slot.

Sometimes this results in no video at boot, and sometimes it results in instability. Try reseating your board making sure it's *all* the way in and properly aligned. Give it a good push. Make sure it's in there.

Just because you're not having an IRQ conflict doesn't mean you're not having an IRQ problem. The G400 does not like to use IRQ's below 9. Make sure it is on IRQ 9 or higher.

Just because you're not using PC-133 RAM doesn't mean you're not having a RAM problem. Your response to Paul's suggestion was ridiculous.

There must be a was to check that your AGP divider is not set to 1/1. If there isn't an option in the BIOS, and on a new system there should be, then there should be a jumper that controls this setting. Check your manual.

matrosuxs, I agree with the others, please calm your tone down if you want help.

First off, you wanted an overclocked CPU? What do you expect? Your clock speed are off and your Bus speed are also running at higher speeds. Do you know at what speed is the AGP running at?

                          Calm down, Man!

Format and reinstall a clean system doesn't mean that everything should work out. I did that before for my G400 but it still locked up. You need to check the following:

                          1. Powersupply. Some ps do not give enough juice for G400, plus Athlon is picky with ps too!

                          2. AGP speed. I don't know about the FSB speed and AGP ratio on your system, but NO graphic card can take too high AGP frequencies. Also force AGP 1X in order to reach lower AGP frequency speed.

Notice: Force AGP 1X is the solution to all my lockup and instabilities. I tried:

take the motherboard out of the case -> eliminate inproper seating problem
take all the other cards out -> eliminate conflicts or unknown problems
change SDRAM sticks -> eliminate memory quality problem
change powersupply -> give better and more power to the system
format and reinstall system -> eliminate stupid MS factors .

None of above solved my problem (for almost 2 month). Then AGP 1X saved me. Although in the BIOS I set 2/3 AGP/FSB ratio, but 2X still doesn't work on my machine.

                          3. Driver issue. Use the Powerdesk uninstaller program to remove the old drivers. Simply uninstall Powerdesk from Control Panel does NOT do the work!!

                          Anyway, good luck to yours!

Hey, I think that was Genom's 99th post. And it was a flame!

I look forward to the 100th.

Of course, if this is a power supply problem, I think he has no choice but to return that electricity vampire G400 and get a GeForce.
