Sorry, haven't got that DVD, and to be honest I've never played with subtitles at all.
Have you tried upgrading the matrox DVD engine with the latest cinemaster one? Maybe that'll fix it. ( http://www.dvdutils.com )

      Kristian,

Please tell me your exactly TV brand and model.

BTW, did you try to setup the G400 output to NTSC?

Discussing about quality, of course the best solution(which is also the most expensive)is to get the apropriate TV set for each region,
      i.e. a multistandard one.

There is an alternate cheap solution, get DVD Genie and set it to "Soft Deinterlace".

And don't forget, you will get the best quality using component output for your TV set(usualy conectable to the SCART input}available at the G400 secondary output in any mode(dual display, clone,MAX).

      Regards, Bogie

        Hi Bogie

Never mind the TV, its about 10 years old and Panasonic.
I can put the signal through my NTSC vcr and changing the output from the G400 to NTSC - that gets rid of the jittery motion, buuuut the imaged is grey and the sound is no good. That is due to the fact that my TV is PAL. I guess that the vcr just accepts the NTSC and passes it along to the TV not actually converting it to PAL. The DVDgenie is already tweaked to the max, the problem is not there.

        Regards

        Kristian

Just sent this one of to "webmaster@matrox.com"

          Dear Sirs at Matrox

Me and quite a few others are having problems while watching DVD region1 discs
on PAL systems. There are frequent "hickups" or "stuttery" playback when
outputting to a television set. This motiondegrading is not visual on the monitor.
After bouncing the issue around somewhat in a popular forum on the net, there
seems to be a common conclusion.
Most DVD's are recorded in NTSC format, currently the native mode of
American/Canadian televisions. However quite a few other countries over the world
are runing the mode PAL. This is of course known to you but I will state my opinion
anyway, just in case I have misunderstood things.
Anyway, If I am not mistaken the actual conversion from NTSC to PAL is done by
dropping one frame in every six frames to get the final result of 25 fps wich is the
framerate of PAL (compared to the 30 fps in NTSC).
This may not seem like a big problem, but it is, since almost ALL DVD's sold in
Scandinava are coded region1 (this is not illegal despite what some people believe).
It causes some eyestrain to watch DVDs when they "stutter". I have been told to buy
an NTSC Television by another user, that doesn't seem like the proper way to solve
          this problem.
I am asking you two humble questions.

          1. Is Matrox aware of this problem?
          2. Does Matrox intend to "fix" it, or more correctly "support this feature"?

I assure you that my system is not in anyway misconfigured, or that I have forgotten
to enable DMA for my DVD player. I will post my system specs anyway.

          Thanks in Advance

            SteveC,

"Now, the problem: when you play back a NTSC video on a PAL tv, one in every 6 frames has to be dropped in order to get 25fps which gives the output of 50Hz."

What you describe here would probably work better. Since what actually happens is that it drops the last 6 frames of every second.

This is why it skips once every second.

I have the hollywood+ and i think they have only partially solved the problem. Where on the g400 i was getting a stutter every second (due to the last 5 frames being drooped) i now get many tinier jitters that suggests to me that the hollywood just drops the frames as they occur rather than dropping them al at once. Looks a bit like the g400 on soft de-interlace.

Just wondered what kinda power do you guys have ? I have a 300A@450 and sometimes the dvdmax to tv isn't perfect.. but that's okey.. does the desktop resolution@bits affect to the tv output, meaning if i watch the movie from my tv i could turn my desktop resolution 640x480x16 bit if that would work..

Well i REALLY dont think that you should use computers to watch DVD-movies.. im gonna buy a DVD-player next summer ( and get that damn DolbyDigital/DTS-decoder =) .. computers DVD drives and fans are just too DAMN LOUD.
