Well I didn't have to bend My G400. The only problem was that windoze 98 got it's knickers in a twist re-assigning irq's and kept hanging and corrupting drivers. The board was an upgrade because I needed a few more pci slots. The solution was to re-install windoze 98 then re-install from the backup and everything worked. My NT which is supposed to be pain plug and play wise took it in it's stride and worked first time.
