  • Fixing problems with K7M

Use the registry hack that forces AGPx2.
    It worked for me

To get rid of the "Plaid Death" on cold boot ups with an Athlon and Asus K7M mobo you must force AGP 2x :P

Lot of people have been having this problem and AGP 2x is the only solution.

    ------------------
    Athlon 500MHz @ 750MHz 1/3
    G400 32 meg Dual-Head Vanilla @ 160.2/200.25 (400.5, 2.5/2.0/2.5)

    Athlon 500MHz @ 750MHz 1/3
    G400 32 meg Dual-Head Vanilla @ 160.2/200.25 (400.5, 2.5/2.0/2.5)

Yes, forcing AGP2x IS the way to solve problems with G400 & K7M.

Zenfe, How did you get your Athlon 500MHz to 750MHz? I can only get my Athlon 550MHz to 600MHz. I have the same motherboard.

I changed the CPU clock ratio from 2.5 to 3.75
Either you have to get a mod to do this or like me before mods were widely available I had to solder little tiny resistors into different places on the actual chip. Well I didn't do it myself I got the guy I bought the CPU from to do it for me :P

Thanks for all those who helped with my problem. In my case, the incompatibility was caused by using any MORE RECENT BIOS than 1007 (I have a Rev C6 Irongate chipset on my K7M, and using these beta BIOS enabled bypass).

Reverting the BIOS to 1007 and applying the AGP 2X patch solved the issue.
