  • G400 screen corruption

I have noticed that sometimes i get a vertical line about 4/5 of the way across the monitor (from the left).
The line is a greyish colour and only appears i think in certain resolutions when using OGL.

I first noticed this on the demo sequence for Unreal Tornament and i put it down to a dodgey driver or the game. But i have noticed this in other apps now such as Winamp plugins.

As it is so far limited to these two progs i am not that bothered and i am still inclined to think it is a software problem - please tell me otherwise. (or dont!)

    Cheers,
    Patrick

    Hi,

I similarly have this problem. This vertical light and dark bands occurred about 2/3 to 4/5 of the screen from the left. It moved a little depending on resolution and refresh rate. When I changed the VGA cable to the BNC cable -- the light band (or light grey vertical line) improved drastically, and is now just 1 cm from the left edge of the screen. It is present in all resolution and all application -- at refresh rate of 60Hz it is much improved. It is most obvious when the background is uniformly grey.

Anyone out there with a solution ?

    My hardware config :-
My system configuration is as follows :-
    PIII 667 BE (coppermine)
SD133 128 mb Mitsubishi ram on board
    Microstar BX-Master motherboard
    Sony 19' GDM F400 monitor - 1600x1200 85Hz 32bit colour
    Window Media Player v6.4
    DirectX 7.0a
G400 Max driver ranging from 5.1 to 5.5 (all version sharing this problem)

    Thanks

Are you talking about a single row of pixels or a more blurry vertical region?

I have seen a similar problem with both my old TNT and G400, but for me it seems to be more of a slight variation in color which is only noticable on a somewhat dark uniform color filling the screen. It occurs along a roughly 5mm wide vertical area that changes in position slightly with resolution. It is probably either an imperfection in the monitor or perhaps a result of some other device causing interference.

I agree with the comment Fyx, It only appears on dark backgrounds. Although Unreal and this bloody winamp skin is the only thing i have noticed it on. I have not noticed that it changes position with resolution changes.

Can anyone else confirm that it is my monitor and not the card or a driver prob?

It's a monitor thing, in fact, most if not all monitors and tv's have that "prob".

Are you guys useing apriture grill monitors (trinitron, Dimondtron, etc)?. If so you will never get rid of it. It is a bar (actually two bars) that support the grill. It can also be seen on trinitron TVs but is less noticable as it's in less demanding, critical use.

One is about a third of the way down from the top, the other about a third up from the bottom; they devide the screen into thirds.

Most people either get used to it (most), or give up on apriture grill monitors and get CRTs (less). Heck I guess today some might even switch to LCDs, who knows.

Just remember if you have a trinitron based monitor, nothing is 'wrong'. It's just a shadow.

                    Those are horizontal, not vertical.
