If they say it's fine get them to demostrate it. By the sounds of it it shouldn't take long to bomb it out. Then you should have a nice red faced techie who slink away with it and get it fixed.
If it does work you get a No I won't say it. If it does work ask em what they did. If they loaded Bios defaults and it worked you'll scream!

CMB, what if that light at the end of the tunnel is a mirror that reflects the light from the start of the tunnel, as it's placed in the bend of that tunnel??

No, I hope for you it'll work. Might be bad current you have

            <SIDE STEPS TRAIN NARROWLY>

Ok, update. The PC was taken in this morning dead on 9.30. The technican there was very suprised. I think he was expecting a desktop or something not a great hulking tower.

He took one look and said whos doing that?
            the manager said "You!"
            "When?" he said....
            "Now!" was the answer.
I also included a 3 page document detailing all i had tried and that you, my friends on the board had suggested.
So there it was left to the mercy.

I rang at 12 noon to check on it and was told it was still on the bench. I reminded him that i wanted to pick it up today and would ring again at 3.00

When 3pm came the call was made, and the verdict was given.

"It appears there is a fault with the motherboard. We have ordered another one. There is 1 in stock in our nirmingham warehouse. We have deliveries everyday and we expect it tomorrow. Would you like to collect your system today?

            Yes please.

ok, if youd collect it and then Whip out the motherboard (whip it out? i thought they said i hadn't fitted it properly? :O)
and we will do a straight swap tomorrow

            Thank you!

So i have my PC again.. seems pretty definet what the problem was.. well is
and i have a new board on its way.. i only hope its third time lucky :O)

When we collected it the tech guy seemed very relieved.

            "Had fun?" my companion teased

            "No" was ther reply
"Glad to be rid of it?"
            "Yes", and turning to me
"And i expect you'll be glad to finally have it going"
"Of course, thats what where aiming for"

So there you go. problem identifed and potential soloution on the way.

Im still narked that I wouldnt have gotten any of this service if a masive fuss hadn't been kicked up about it.

anyhow.. Im not celebrating just yet. ive done that prematurly too many times already in the past month..

... but heres hoping.. (cross fingers)

And you are close to success, CMB because of your extraordinary patience, and the "courage of knowing" that you gained in part here among friends on the MURC.

I Say "Close" because you just never know about businesses and retail and such, but I will say this; as a former small electronics shop owner, if they do "take care of you," you need to reinforce their good behaviour. Nothing, even money and profits, means as much to a retailer as a customer who is happy and takes the time to say so. It kept me in the electronics business for far too long. (That was SO many years ago!!)

Don't forget, fellow MURCers, the value of a person on the ground who is there to help you when you've got a problem. As far as I'm concerned, if I can find my next piece of hardware locally from someone who will take it in and FIX it, He's worth an extra $20 or $30 bucks...every time.

The "Online store" may be a fine efficient concept, but here's a case where the guy got something he couldn't have gotten in cyberspace.

Analog (humans) can sometimes be superior to digital.

CONGRATS (perhaps prematurely) to you CMB!

This whole thread reminds me of my own recent fight with an FIC SD11 Athlon mobo, which I replaced with an ASUS K7M. Lots of fighting, and hunting, and frustration involved. CMB deserves the patience award on this one. Just be happy you didn't go to the effort of trying to uninstall directX, then install an older version(to check if that was it), then find out that the latest Matrox drivers were the problem.

i tried uninstalling direct X once.. never again :O).... well i collected my motherboard today :O)
im the proud over of a brand spanking new ABIT BE6 :O)
i plugged it all in using the marvel and got many blue screens of death....
                  :O(
then i reseated the processor.. and rejigged the RAM and of course crossed my fingers.

and it worked... i then tried RAYMAN 2 demo and Lemans 24Hrs demo and Q3 test 1.08 (only one to hand) it worked but had problems.. maybe its because im using no turbo GL and 5.30, that the demo is old (1.08) or because i tried all the other games first and then went online and then tried it. or maybe i should set my AGP size to 128 instead of 256?
                  anyhow all seems well :O)

hoorah..... for now :O) i seem to be eternally pessimistic (probably spelt wrong)
im tired and i just got in from clubbing ok :O)
anyhow thanks to all you splendid people who gave me the courage to keep it going..

                  you are all saints :O)
