I upgraded from a G400 16MB SH to a MAX. The 16MB was at AGP 2 X. I had the latest 5.25 drivers installed already. Removed the 16MB OEM in safe mode, rebooted, Win98 SE recognized and loaded drivers for the MAX. Now I am AGP X 1.

I use PowerQuest Drive Image to back up my main drive, then stick it on second SCSI HD called Frankendrive for testing that may go astray to try MGA Tweak. So I load my backup op system on drive 2, forgetting to remove the 16MB OEM card. It boots, screens all garbled. Go into safe mode, remove both cards from device manager, reboot, it recognizes MAX, loads drivers and life is good. Now this one is at AGP X 2.

3D MARK 99 score is slightly less. I expected an increase. Can anyone explain to me how AGP speed gets determined and if I should see an increase?

      To: DMaster

I also have the same Asus P5A rev1007 mobo and here's what i did to enable AGP2X for my OEM G400 16Mb.

      Goto:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ALi\ALi AGP Driver\AGPDataRate and set value from "0" to "2"

      and
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\Display\0000\Settings\CPU\AGPFlags set to "-1"

This will enable AGP2X. Not to many know that although the registry hack is already making the G400 itself running at AGP2X, but its the mobo that is stopping it from screaming at AGP2X due to the ALi AGP settings. I'm not so sure of the case with MVP3 mobos.

Anyway, anyone know what are the best settings for FrameBufferSize (currently value is "C") and GATMode inside HEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ALi\ALi AGP Driver\ ??

      Hope this helps. :-D

I've got a Matrox G400Max and a 440BXBoard based board (Abit BX6 R.2)... I'm running the latest Powerdesk 5.50 for 98. Soon I might be running it under NT 4 as I might swap it out with my work computer which has a GeForce and the Dualhead will benefit me more there.

How do I find out if it's running in AGP 1x or 2x, and how do I fix it and the such...

        Thanks...
