Questions about rumours

I know all of these questions have been asked in one form or another and I have looked through the archives, but there were no REAL satisfying answers. So here I am asking some more questions Since I never ended up buying a G400(lack of availability), I've now decided that the G450 will probably be it and then on to the G800(assuming I can get it). Now that I've written a novel, here is my final answer, er...question.

What does the G450 have over the G400? I keep hearing T(hardware)&L(software) and what else? I realize that this is all rumours and speculation, but I'd like to hear rumours and speculation

Keep in mind T&L isn´t always as good as it seems... A speedy PIII/Athlon using SSE/3dNow! seems to actually be outperforming the Ge-Farce already...

ok, so to sum it up, we think we know

T&L(h/s)
REAL AGP4X(but what does this really do for us? Has anyone seen benchmarks that show what agp4x can do?)
Higher Clock Speeds(hmmm...pushing the G400 chip, hope it pans out)
Smaller Die(probably how they can push higher clock speeds)

But what does "see the light of day" mean in this context? Press Announcement? Shipping to distributors?

Most of the descriptions I have seen about the limits of overclocking G400s look like memory errors even with 5ns chips. Does any one realy know how fast a G400 chip could run if not held back by memory speed?

IIRC, the G450 will have hardware T, software L, AGP 4x (REAL AGP 4x), higher clock speeds, etc.

(Or was that software T, and hardware L? *shrug*)

Rumour Mill
Word on the street is that the G450 will see light of day in early March while the G800 series will appear in September. As with all rumour mills the usual disclaimers apply

Rumour Mill
For those of you waiting eagerly with $1200 in hand for the Matrox RT2000 it appears you will have to wait a little longer. Apparently the RT2000 drivers failed the Adobe Premiere acceptance tests and so will have to be fixed up and retested. If all goes well we should see a February release of the Matrox RT2000.

It looks like Matrox are going to leapfrog ahead to the G800 for their next generation chip which will power several different graphics boards including multiple processors versions. The G800 will have full hardware T&L built around DirectX8 and will ship in late summer. Matrox's next release the G450 will include it's own T&L support but this will be hardware transform with lighting done in software. Look for a probable springtime release on that one.

As always with the rumour mill if these rumours don't turn out to be entirely correct, don't bother trying to sue me
