Definitely a move to general hardware is advices. No flames Goc. I didn't have any problems with Abit either until just recently. Maybe it's because my machine has become machine-zilla:

I had the same problem when I first got my new BP6... this is what you have to do.
I found that Abit boards can be very finicky (sp?). You're going to hate this, but I'm going to tell you to take EVERYTHING out of your case (sigh!). Take the board, and place it on on something that doesn't allow electricity conduct on it and hook it up to the powersupply. Then stick some ram in there and a video card and hook up the monitor. Now see if the system boots. If it doesn't then try a different graphics card and do it again. More than likely everything should boot up normally. Then start putting things in like your sound card, ethernet card, etc one at a time. What you'll find is one of two things is causing your problem.
A. Your board is conducting electricity onto the case (sounds strange right?). This happened with my BP6 AND my brother's BE6-II !!!
B. Abit boards, while my personal favorite, sometimes don't like particular cards. This was the case with my old 56 K PCI modem. The system simply wouldn't boot with the modem in ANY slot.

I just got my Pentium III 600E up to 774 MHz without a hitch so far. I think the AOpen board, if you can get one, is just remarkable.
Did I mention it was black?

I build systems for work and I recommend
Abit BE6 and BE6-II
Asus P3B-F
Soyo SY6BA+4
in no particular order.
I have a Abit BE6-II board in my home puter, but I would have gone with a Soyo SY6BA+4 if I could of found one.
I have no problems with any Abit or Soyo boards but the Asus P3B-F gives me false information on CPU temps and one board smoked itself when I was installing it.
All these boards are bx chipsets. I have not purchased any Via chipsets although I don't have anything against them.
Good luck!

For the power supply with BP6 part, I found it may be due to cmos not cleared effectively during bios upgrade ( at least for me), I had this problem after flashing bios.....I need to turn on computer twice b4 o/s will boot...
I fixed it by hardware clearing cmos, ie unplug power cord, set jumper to clear cmos on motherboard, count to 5, reset the jumper to normal operation and plug back power cord.
reset bios settings to your liking and that's it, no more problem
hope this help

No problems with G400 and BH6, C366@550 whatsoever. Why buy new stuff when you can use your old rig and wait a little longer for new chipsets/boards to arrive RSN? (820e chipsets, KX133)
My other machine is a P2B board, which is absolutely rock-solid, but I guess a P3F is even better. To my opionion, the BX chipset is still unbeatable in terms of memory performance and stability. The disadvantage of AGP speed getting to high when overclocking is not too important when using a G400 as many Murcers have succes reaching 90-100Mhz AGP.

My Asus P3B-F is very stable. It runs the retail P500e at 133 fsb giving me a P667. The G400max works well with this setup but probably runs at agp 1x due to the 133 fsb.
I have heard good things about the new Asus P3V4X which looks almost the save as the P3B-F but has the latest via chipset and gives the correct agp setting for 133 fsb (.5 * 133), agp 4x, and ultra66. Has anyone tried this board?

To Paulcs:
What kind of cooling do you use for your CPU, I'm soon to get a 600e and just want to know if I have to consider a special fan or not since the processor is 0.18 and doesn't seem to get very hot.
