  • I am experiencing similar problems(system locking hard when trying to play a game)

    My system:

    Tyan Thunder100(1836DLU) Bios rev. 1.16b
    -Have PNP enabled in BIOS
    -ACPI disabled
    -AGP aperture set to 256
-PS/2, Serial ports disabled(using USB perphs only)

SB Live(recently reformatted and went directly to 3.0 drivers + updated drivers)

3Com FastEtherlink NIC (using default Win98SE drivers and haven't installed 3COM diagnostic programs)

Matrox G400 MAX (Bios 1.3-20) and using 5.41 drivers, installed over DX7a.

    Hauppauge WinTV w/remote

    Pioneer 303S DVD Drive

    List of IRQ assignments:

    00 - System Timer
01 - Standard 101/102-Key or MS Natural Keyboard
    02 - Programmable interrupt controller
    03 - *Free*
    04 - *Free*
    05 - Hauppauge Win/TV Audio Section
    05 - Hauppauge Win/TV Video Section
05 - IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
06 - Standard Floppy Disk Controller
    07 - *Free*
    08 - System CMOS/real time clock
09 - Creative SB Live! Value
09 - IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
    10 - Adaptec AIC-789X PCI SCSI Controller
    10 - Adaptec AIC-789X PCI SCSI Controller
    10 - Matrox Millenium G400 DualHead - English
10 - IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
    11 - 3Com Fast Etherlink XL (3C905B-TX)
11 - Intel 82671AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
11 - IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
    12 - *Free*
    13 - Numeric Data Processor
14 - Intel 82671AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
14 - Primary IDE Controller (dual fifo)
15 - Intel 82671AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
15 - Secondary IDE Controller (dual fifo)

I have tried different drivers as well as using TGL drivers... But nothing works. I figure it is having my SCSI on same IRQ with my G400. I have tried playing around with IRQ allocations within BIOS, but every "tweak" I make, there seems to be a counter-action where both the G400 and SCSI(onboard mind you) are joined at the hip.
Could someone give me a hand in fixing this problem?

Yes, I agree that the first problem must be that SCSI sharing with the G400.

Looks like you have to physically swap cards around if redirecting IRQs in BIOS isn't helping.

It sounds bizarre, but many people have found that having the NIC share with the G400 is the only solution.

I assume that you have the SCSI card in PCI slot 1 (right below the AGP slot). That's why you can't separate the G400 and the SCSI card... those 2 slots share an IRQ.

Try moving the NIC to slot one and putting the SCSI card where the NIC was, and let us know what happens.

The SCSI chips are onboard my motherboard. I have no other AGP slot. =) I found what may have been my problem tho. A piece of software was causing my problems. Check out my other post for more details. Thanks for the suggestions tho.
