  • G400 & Win2k

I'm would like to know how many of you are using G400 under Windows 2000 because I would like to chamge from 98 to 2000 but the drivers (on matrox.com) are beta? So maybe I should wait for full drivers? And how about performance? Is there a great difference between 98 and 2000 (i mean in graphics, which matrox drivers are responcible for)?

I'm running Win2k with my G400. So far, not a single problem that I can attribute to the card. The OS itself doesn't seem to be too gaming oriented, but that is to be expected. Don't play enough of the high FPS games to have a clue about the difference in performance. Ultima IX runs fine for me, though...

Results are mixed, 2D is pretty good, I haven't had much luck with OpenGL games though. If you are not using a M/B with a bx chipset, then forget about upgrading for now.

Provided you have the RAM, games performance should equal or exceed Win 98, and the stability is great (driver issues aside).

I'm running the release candidate of Win2K and the Marvel G400 so far Quake3 UT Sports car GT and Foresaken all run like a charm.
Now that's a combination of OGL and DX7.0

        Cheers,
        Elie

Why change? Just use both at least for now.

Why exactly should lack of a BX chipset stop you from upgrading?

I've had numerous display problems with my G400 in Win2000. Every once in awhile the screen will become distorted at the top edge and the whole system will crash. I'm almost positive that its due to the beta driver because the screen gets all screwed up right before it crashes. But sometimes it runs perfectly. I've even got Q3A to run pretty well. I'm almost certain WQHL certified drivers will resolve this problem.
