  • Strange Matrox card or is it me?

    Hi Guys & Gals,

Something I scanned from the last PC Format I got (105), it's a Matrox card, with a Zoran DVD chip and a big heatsink, but I don't recognize it, maybe because of that second bigger outlet on the left.

Kruzin, if you think this post belongs elsewhere, feel free to move it

    Here she is:

Might this not be that G400 that's sold by that other manufacturer (I forgot who) under another name?

Unless it's the Marvel and that bigger outlet goes to some switchbox...? It kinda looks like the connections on my roommate's BUZ card, that's why I think of it....

I should be reading this mag better... it's the Marvel G400-TV ... that other port is the TV-IN/OUT !!

Ah...I thought I recognized the card. Its mine!

Jorden: Yep, that fatter port is for the A/V pod that houses all the I/O (composites, S-VHS, coax) and tuner.

All: Some OTHER manufacturer is using Matrox chips in their boards? WTF? How did I miss hearing that before...

          Yup.
Gigabyte is selling the GA-400, a G400 with no BIOS. It must be run on specific GA mobos that have the video bios on the mobo.

Don't expect we'll see too many of those around...

            That's interesting. A Marvel-G400, eh?

That left most connector did look very familiar. I thought that my ol Mil II and Mil I had them. It turns out that my Mil I is the only one with the same number of pins in the same configuration. I never have used that port on my Mil I. Is it the same as the Marvel G400? Can I do fancy TV in/out things with it? I just might have a new toy to play with in my ol' box. This is the ol' "Media XL Input/Output Connector" Let's go through the pins:

            1 microphone (left)
            2 ground
            3 microphone (right)
            4 ground
            5 line in (left)
            6 ground
            7 line in (right)
            8 ground
            9 line out (left)
            10 ground
            11 line out (right)
            12 ground
            13 Y in (luminance)
            14 ground
            15 C in (chroma)
            16 ground
            17 Y out (luminance)
            18 ground
            19 C out (chroma)
            20 ground
            21 composite in (1)
            22 ground
            23 composite in (2)
            24 ground
            25 composite out
            26 ground

OK, now what do I hook it up to and how do I use it?

Not too sure about the Mil I, but my Mil II used a RR that was ment just for it. Wasn't compatible with any other video cards (not even Matrox's next card out the door, b@$terds), that I know of. But it was fun to play with.
