Need to get some of these W2K gurus to help you out. Posting your IRQ assignments would help...

It's not as if I hadn't warned you before, Ad B. Or did you forget all about the last thread?

I hope for you that someone can help you this time, or at least that you're willing to listen

        Jorden.

The stuff in the first message (I/O ports and addresses) looks fine to me.

It's perfectly normal for the AGP controller to share memory and I/O with your AGP card.

                Obvious.

Get your G400 on its own IRQ. You do this in your BIOS, sometimes in Device Mgr. or by moving cards around in more primitive m/b systems.

Also select "Assign IRQ to VGA" in your bios if you have that option.

As I recall it was two weeks ago that you blew off a request for this information...ya coulda been runnin' sweet back then Ad B.

Double check those IRQ's, go through the steps necessary to get the G400 on its own, and report back.

And make nice with Jorden--he's one of the better Bios boys. If you'll follow instructions, you will learn a lot.

                I'm outta here!

I have no PCI cards, and two ISA cards. I don't have an "Assign IRQ to VGA" option, plus, when I try set IRQ's to Legacy ISA, it makes no difference. Win2k seems to reset the IRQ's them, I believe.

                  I have a GA-5AX rev 5.x SS7 mobo.

Since you don't have, or need USB...Try disabling it in your bios, or moving it to another IRQ in Device Mgr. If that option isn't available, Disable the USB host controller through Hardware profiles in device mgr.

There are others here who know much more about the exact sequence and procedure. If all this doesn't work, a nice new post asking for the proper re-install sequence from scratch MAY be the solution for you.
If you don't piss him off, GURM can maybe help you with the proper driver install sequence from a freshly formatted HDD and a clean reinstall.

You've got early SS7 stuff here, and early SS7's are notorious for bugs, often related to a noisy bus.

                    Also--force AGP1x if you can.

Why Win2K on this old stuff? Aren't you a gamer?

I have a Intellimouse w/ Intellieye, I was using it with USB, i switched it to PS/2, and it got rid of a conflict. But now this one came around. D'oh. I'll try disabling it.

I do have USB disabled in the BIOS, I think. I'll double check though.

                      Oh, I ain't a hard-core PC gamer really. I'm a website designer, and Squaresoft freak :0)

Ad B, have you tried the latest BIOS for your mobo? (If not, you can d/l it here.)

This BIOS has Support Windows 2000 ACPI mode installation.

Plus you say you have rev. 5.x of the GA-5AX.
Could you please for once be a bit more specific?? For there's a PCB Rev. 5.2 First Edition and <someone wants to guess?>a Second Edition.<fool>

This could help others as well.

                        Jorden.

Thx for the compliment, Tim. Does that make me a BB??

Oh, btw, I do hope you reinstalled the ALi Ultra DMA 33/66 Bus Master IDE driver and the ALi AGP GART VxD driver?

I don't have an "Assign IRQ to VGA" option
Is this possible?? Don't all SS7 boards--in fact pretty much all boards still available now--have this option in BIOS?

Or do I just get too many Award BIOSes?

Just for my own curiousity, is there such a thing as an ISA Winmodem? I have only encountered PCI Winmodems.
