  • refresh 1152by 864 only 75hz w2k why !!!!!!

    hi everyone.

i am now verry pissed of on matrox.
they again release a win2000 driver and still i cannot use de setting 1152by84/ 85 hz only 75hz in that resolution.
why is that so difficult for them... i think that many of us use a 17 inch monitor.
when i use a large resolutie than 1152by864 than de 85 is possible.
maybe someone can tel me to solve it in a another way...

Why don't you guys just change the refresh rate in NT? Does this option disappear after installing the Matrox drivers?

      Try this:

Right click on the desktop and go to "Display Properties."

      Click the "Settings" tab.

      Click the "Advanced" button.

      Click the "Monitor" tab.

Under "Monitor Settings" there is a check-off box labeled "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display." Uncheck it.

Right above that is the control for refresh rates. You should have several more options available.

I'm currently not running W2K and a G400 together, but I did and this method used to work. It also works with a Voodoo3 and a TNT2 Ultra, so I suspect it still does. I'd appreciate if you would confirm this.

      Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is. Is it that you can change the setting to your desired refresh rate in NT, but not in PowerDesk?

I've tested W2K with the G400, and I'm currently running it with a Voodoo3, and a TNT2 Ultra. The procedure for getting a refresh rate above 75 Hz was the same. I had to enable "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" and specify that I wanted an 85 Hz refresh rate.

If I'm misunderstanding you, I apologize, but I think the manipulation of refresh rates is now the exclusive responsibility of the OS and not PowerDesk. Possibly, excluding this function from PowerDesk may be a requirement for Microsoft certification.

Why W2K defaults to 75 Hz for monitors that support higher refresh rates is beyond me, but, again, it has done this with every board I've tried it with.

Indeed this is linked to the OS... Remeber that this OS is just a week old... it's can't be perfect right away... no need to blame everyone because of that. I am sure that Matrox will shortly release drivers that will allow you to modify through their drivers the refresh and settings you need... in the meantime, you can try contacting MS on this issue.
