  • Refresh Rate under Win2000

Yikes...why do I recall this question being asked before (my apologies if it has).

    Grafics Card - Matrox G400SH

    Monitor - Gateway VX900 (aka Hitachi 751).

Max refresh rate under Win2000 is 85hz. Previously under Win98 was 110hz. Is there a hack or something to be eable to increase the refresh rate?

Or...will this be addressed in the next release... please Matrox!

Windows 2000 "hides" refresh rates it considers unsupported. I'm not using a G400 in Windows 2000, but I did, and this method used to work with it. It also works with nVidia and 3dfx boards.

    Try this:

Right click on the desktop and go to "Display Properties."

    Click the "Settings" tab.

    Click the "Advanced" button.

    Click the "Monitor" tab.

Under "Monitor Settings" there is a check-off box labeled "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display." Uncheck it.

Right above that is the control for refresh rates. You should have several more options available.

I'm sorry about this being a little too detailed for the more advanced user, but I've notice the question has been asked a lot these days.

Thanks Paul. Did try that. Seems Matrox has these locked at 85hz max. Glad to hear Nvidia supports higher refresh rates.

You'll be able to customize your monitor like under Win9x with PowerDesk 6.10.

Is 6.10 what MS is certifying for win2K ?
Well least we know the version number

Phoenix will the .mpr files created with powerdesk 5 be compatible with powerdesk 6.10? I would really hate having to make a new one for win2k.

Not only can you not go above 85 hz but I can't go above 75 Hz at 1152 x 864 (16 bit). I usually run at 100 hz at this resolution in 98. Why would you be able to go 85 hz at 1280 x 1024 but not at 1152? I hope this is fixed soon. 100 hz feels easier on my eyes and I prefer running at 1152 but I'm not going to run at 75 hz. Is this issue so difficult to fix?

I haven't tried getting anything higher than 85 Hz at 1024x768.

I thought this was a function of the OS and the monitor driver. I notice that the refresh rate controls are no longer found under the "adapter" tab, as they were in Windows 9x, but are now accessed via the "monitor" settings. W2K defaulted to 75 Hz on both my TNT2 and my Voodoo3, and no higher "supported" refresh rate option was listed in either case.

I could be wrong, but given the exact same situation existed with three different boards, it appears to be a W2K issue.
