I want the next matrox card to have a add on 5.25 inch bay unit like the soundblaster livedrive, that will connect to the agp card and provide extra inputs / outputs a shed load of high speed memeory and not to forget the extra graphics processing power.... lets say enough to please the high end studio max people.

Having this "livedrive" style solutlion would also allow mega cooling with huge fans etc.

and it would look cool. the add on unit would also be closer to the PSU so would be able to drink as much juice as needed without having power cables to the agp card.

    Here are the specs

    128MB local ram
trihead X2 monitor or flat panal and 1 tv out
    Svideo ouput / rgb composite

4 times g400 processing power on each G800 chip

up to 4 g800 chips on board

hardware monitoring (temp + fan speed)

upgrade chip via software - e.g. liveware 1,2,3

    Full t&l hardware

    AGP 4x PRO slot required.

And this is just the vanilla version, wait for the max!!!

      I'd like:

      - DualHead, 32MB per frame buffer, or an adjustable 48/16 split (64MB on the card, minimum)

      - 360Mhz+ RAMDAC on BOTH heads

      - Full video overlay support on the second head.

      - Color control on the second head.

      - 2GPixel/sec fillrate

      - A complete hardware T&L solution (not that half-ass nVidia crap).

      - OpenGL driver evolution.

      - A PCI variant, for those machines where two monitors isn't enough.

      - An NLX variant, for NLX cases.

      Just my $0.02

If they can find a use for it, hardware T&L would be nice. (I guess people running certain 3D apps have a use for it. Sorry guys.) I'd rather Matrox take the 3dfx route with anti-aliasing and motion compensation.

If the board is a power glutton, I'd like the option to connect it to the power supply.

If we have to pay extra for AGP 4x Pro support, a feature without absolutely no function, I'd just as soon pay for a poke in the eye. I'd prefer not to pay for any features that I can't use, and won't until I've replaced the board, replaced the replacement, grown old, and died.

I have the same dream as IceStorm!

Especially w/ regards to Dual Head and RAMDAC. I dont think the Fillrate is reasonable but everything is very cool with me.

I started this thread with the intent that someone from matrox would read what users are interested in on their next graphics board.
I assumed that the G800 would have been in development for months and it would not be possible to add extra features to it at this late stage, hence features for the Graphics card and not on the G800 chip itself (ie I was interested in dual head, tv out, temp sensors, dual bios etc and not things like DXTC, motion blurring etc -- sorry for those that commented along those lines (when the G800 is available and feature xxx is not available, I recommend a thread on G1600 chipset wishlist)).

A PCB with pre-existing mounting brackets for additional aftermarket heatsinks / fans, along with supported overclocking tools (not a guarantee that the card will overclock, just support for the utility that changes the settings).

All the above and much more speed for games, plus a glide miniport for old glide games.

Design the layout the pc board , so that the components are on top side of the board, when installed in a tower case. This should work, because the AGP connector location on Mother boards. This would allow the cooling fan be mounted in a better upright operating position. Which should inprove the life of the fan bearings. The heat from the board would flow in a normal upward direction. Better cooling, longer fan life. Works for me.

Think of a better name after the G800.

I think the G1600 sound crappy(NO harm meant).
I do not know, do you?
