Is S-VHS superior to RCA cables for DVD? (Really)

Is it worth getting RGB or S-Video cable for a 20" TV screen or just stick with a RCA cable?

I want to connect my MAX to my TV which is about 15 meters (~50 ft) away.
My TV supports RGB on SCART1 and S-Video on SCART2, so at that length would I be better going fot RGB or S-Video?
Also, what sort of cable should I use - please be specific.
I don't want to spend any more than about 30-40 UKP (50-60 US$)

Ron, Check at HomeTech for your S-Video switcher (manual or IR).

antdude, Again RGB will be the best. Try it, you'll like it. Shouldn't cost you much. Should make a big difference on clarity of textual output from your PC. Should clean up any noise on your video as well as color bleeding. Will make a huge difference if your TV supports higher than normal NTSC/PAL resolutions.

I've created the VGA > RGB(Scart) as defined in the above schematics.. I've come up on a little problem though!

I booted the machine on the original Matrox SVideo cable and Hot swaped the newly created lead.. This works perfect on my 32" widescreen.. And I can see the difference when cicking between RGB-Compositive in TV-out settings.. But Now when I Reboot the system at the post stage it recognises the second G400 output as a Monitor output and I therefore loose the picture on the TV.. Ands to confirm this when going into the Duelhead settings tab, I get a resolution choice instead of the TV-out settings. I tried the alternative lead setup and cut the force RGB wire.. But it still does rthe same.. If I reboot back on the orginal lead and hotswop to the new lead it works fine...

I've already set the bios up to duel head always.. Is there any further option to set TV-out on duel head always and not monitor?

Any other fixes???

Easty, did you connect pin 12 to 15 on the VGA connector? If no, you should. If yes, check them again.

yeah I shorted the 12 > 15 on the VGA and the 17 > 18 on the Scart!

tested the Continuity test form the ext pin side on the VGA ..It beeps Good!

It's a bit of a nightmare unplugging the damn VGA lead every time I need to restart. Especially as I seem to be restarting win2k every other hour with the imaturity of the OS and the many drivers being released.

If I forget to remove the lead any time it sets the output to 60HZ and then I need to get the bastard heavy monitor from upstairs to reset it!

Do you think it would be a danger shourting the pins on the actual board?

I think the board will not crash or something like that, but it's not a wise thing to do. What if you want to connect another monitor to it in the future? You will have to cut the wires again, than.
Logically, there has to be something with the cable/connecters.
