  • Anyone have a MSI K7 Pro MoBoard (Athlon) and G400MAX?

    If anyone has this configuration...
Have you had any problems with system locking up? I get lock-ups during gameplay (quake3). I have tried e-mailing technical support at MSI, but I have not received a reply. This moboard apparently seems to be rare in distribution. My CPU is a 600Mhz and I have 128MB RAM. Please only reply if you have this configuration. I have tried the hundreds of suggestions in MURC forums and AltaVista's Matrox Graphics forum. If there is an issue with this motherboard, something needs to be brought to MSI's attention.

Just one little thing, did you get the newest AMD AGP driver for MSI mobos? It fixes some problems people were facing especially with Q3. I do not have a link @ my hands so please just go to the MSI website and try to find it!

I have had no major problems. Except, if I try and use a USB mouse I get lockups or the machine fails to boot. The MSI 6167 also suffers from this problem (grrrr ).

RoGuE, there's a patch from Microsoft for USB on Athlon motherboards. My USB mouse used to give intermitent problems, but the patch fixed it completely. Bmcgarvey, what brand of memory do you have? Athlon's are picky about memory. If you haven't already, try setting your CAS latency in the BIOS to 3 and see how that works for you. Also, what brand/wattage is your power supply? Almost forgot, please do give us your IRQ list.

I already had the USB 'fix' installed. It didn't make any difference.

G7, I can't give you my IRQ's - my RAID array has knackered - goodbye system I've now lost 2 IBM HDD's in as many weeks.

Currenly using my second system which is in desperate need of a re-install. Random lockups whilst using Internet Explorer!?!

bmcgarvey - do you have the 64 or the 110 clk gen? I have heard some similar problems with the 64 gen. It has something to do with the bios, but I can't remember what it is. I have the board, but I don't have the Athlon yet so I can't exactly help you, but try going to www.amdzone.com and I'm sure someone will be able to. Good luck.

first off, thanks to all of your replies. second, i think i have found one of the problems is caused my sound card (Monster Sound MX300). according to Aureal there was a driver problem causing games to freeze up. i downloaded the newest drivers and it has greatly improved the problems with games. quake3 did lock up one time after that though (and locks up when AGPFALLBACK is set to 1). MUAD'DIB-what do you mean by 64 or 100 clk gen? my motherboard doesn't have the onboard sound. that is the only feature i know that is different between the two revisions of the board. here is my entire configuration.

                MSI K7 Pro
                Athlon 600MHZ
                128MB of SIEMENS PC100 RAM
                IBM Desktar 20.5GB 7200RPM
                G400 MAX
                Diamond Monster Sound Mx300
Creative 5x Encore DVD (decoder not installed)
                Creative 4x2x24 CD-RW

                Thanks

check the clk generator. It's right "below" the ram dimms. Or if your case is closed, check in the bios to see if you can change the fsb by increments of '1'. If so, it is the -110 version. If you don't have onboard sound, you probably have the 110 (you got lucky ). The 64 has some problems with the bios resetting itself sometimes. I was thinking that could cause some problems of locking up if it reset video shadowing and all that crap. Glad to hear you got it fixed though.
