gurm: the only reason why i post this was because randob asked for it. plus you've been telling us this since at january and there has been new drivers that came out. so i thought this would help a bit.. randob sounded like he works for matrox *shrug*

Interesting note about the Win2K stuttering while at the desktop. I get this when I have a game running (ie.: UT in a window, with the menu displayed). It doesn't seem to happen while input is going to the UT window, but anytime the cursor is on the desktop (as in I'm trying to ICQ someone) it does that stuttering thing. Win98 doesn't exhibit the same problems, though.

I have a SINGLE processor(before you think this is another SMP issue, Gurm ), p3-450 (o.c. to 558) on an Abit BE6 motherboard, with 256MB RAM.

Ace, I have noticed that... it probably has to do with tweaking the priority scheduling.

Hmmm... PD5.52 works fine for me, no major issue. However, in Q3A, the texture (blood, bullet hole) flickers when I move, looks like a z-buffer problem. However, using TurboGL solves this.

glarec, does everything work fine if you boot with /numproc=1 in boot.ini? 5.03.025 does have a multiprocessor problem that will be fixed in the next release.

The G400 drivers still have "issues" with SMP machines. Why can't people just cope with that and wait until this is fixed to post "all 3D games lock up in SMP mode?"

Well, at least it keeps the issue current. SMP is a core facility offered by NT, it shouldn't be treated as so much esotoria, it is not unreasonable to expect that it should be working with the retail release of W2k.

i copied the line in boot.ini that starts win2k in /fastdetect mode and replaced that switch with /numproc=1, so far no problems.

Chucky, are you saying that your games are now working with SMP in Win 2000 or are you speaking of something totally different? My machine runs just fine doing standard apps, but when I load Quake 3 or UT, the machine freezes hard after several minutes of play.

i haven't loaded any games as of yet, autocad is my primary application...it runs fine in either "mode". i have ms office 2k and photodraw v2 and winzip installed in win2k right now(..i always buy msft because i want the tight integration into the os). but as time goes on i plan on totally moving to win2k. i'm going to install bryce after work tonight and see if it works ok!!

i still don't have ocr capabilities with the win2k drivers for my stlus scan 2500...so for now a dual-boot is necessary...

i like having the boot menu option for single processor.

                                my menu(boot.ini)
