You might be missing the G900, LrngToFly.

If we add up the right way, and think logical, the next one is a G900, which should work quite nicely with the 1GHz CPU's from Intel and AMD...

Ive got a bad(maybe?) feeling im going to end up w/ a G450, and a G800/G900(to make Jorden happy). I might be getting a 64 Meg DDR GeForce to look at. This WONT EVER take the place of my MAX, i have to have the DualHead. But it might give me reason enough to build that unstable, super fast, gaming Athlon monster...

But right now i just want my G450! Not to mention about 3k US dollars...

What's this about the Max only being available direct from Matrox? That's not where mine came from. Check out Pricewatch. I got mine from Sunway Graphics for 191, and now I think they charge 182. Shipping was reasonable, $8. Going down...

The next best thing is always around the corner. I waited four years to get a new desktop, with a major upgrade half way. The way I see it, the time to upgrade is when the current rig just won't do what you need it to. So I'll be upgrading again when games require more than 667-720 mhz! The Max, OTOH, may not last as long. Depends on what happens in the T&L dept.

Hey MartinS what da ya mean 'girly skirt' - Not with my legs!

I agree with LrngToFly in that we *probably* won't see the G800 till next year. Probably for two reasons:
1.) Has Matrox (or, to be fair, any other peripheral company for that matter) released a product leaked at one of these shows on time?
2.) Why would Matrox go to all that bother of producing the G450 for it to be superceeded by the G800 in only a few months. Not much of a product life. I mean I know that the release of graphics card and chips has reached Warp factor 9 this last year but come on here. It's not as if they've partnered up with AMD...

Besides it will take till next year for them to get the drivers right

Anyway for these Matrox marketing guys into demographics, I belong to the 30-something male (non-kilt wearing!) group that although compys are his hobby and he likes gaming, the idea of blowing his hard earned cash on new components every six months instead of holidays, nights outs, neat non-compy life-enhancing stuff, and food, doesn't appeal. Besides you have also got to take into consideration that he is married to a 30-something female whose only interest in computers is Solitare (why are women so into that game?) and throw a fit when you beg them to be allowed to replace that 3.5 inch floppy disk that you've had since 1990 that's starting to show bad sectors

Cheers

Aww Opus I'm sure you've got lovely legz - I used to work in Ayre and once travelled back home to England on the same weekend as an England/Scotland footie match at wembly. I never spoke once and the sight of all those man in kilts will never leave my nightmares !!

Anyway.. At least Matrox continue to support their older kit - as you know the G200 drivers are still coming out. It will be interresting to see how much continued support the TNT2-U gets now that they've stopped production in favour of the GE-F. From a technical point of view it's probably also easier to produce stop-gap chipsets. At least they might get some of the bugs ironed out by the time the G800 hits the market. I mean - look at the G200 when it was released. Totally new chipset and driver support was very weak.
Warning: Sigs may seriously damage your health...

Just read the main page here, I am a bit confused, the G450 and the G800 are pretty much along the lines of the 3dfx V4 lineup, the G800 being two G450s, yet the one with T&L is the G800 version only? I get the feeling Matrox likes the idea of a $600 video card and want to copy that aspect of it.

Hairy legs, but only down to the sock line.

That's not what I read into it.

The G450 is basically the G400 chip except at .18 micron, 6 layer process.

The G800 is a brand new chip. It does have hardware T&L. There will be two versions- a one chip version and two chip version.

So that Japan rumor states the G800 will have roughly 2x the fillrate as the G450. Does that mean the 2 chip G800 will have 4x fillrate?
