attaching fan to heatsink?

    attaching fan to heatsink?

    Hi I've got a G400, I'm thinking about attaching a small fan to the heatsink to provide better cooling. Does anyone know the proper size screw that would fit between the heatsink fins?

    Rick, it's easier than that!

    Just bend some of the fins on the heatsink closer together, then just screw the 486 or Pentium fan on... I've done it that way with only 3 screws (didn't have spce for the 4th one). It's stuck real good on my heatsink, as it hasn't fallen down yet

    I always thank Kruzin for that idea of bending the fins..

      Use a 486 cpu fan. You could always elastic band it. I did. Screws would be better but I didn't wan't to bend my pins.

          Probably too late, guess you already 'screwed' your heatsink...

          Just a few drops of superglue will do...
          AMD-K6-2-300, EPOX-58MVP3C-M,
          Marvel G400, 64MB+64MB(PC100+PC133), Maxtor DM40PLUS 30GB,
          W98 (no SE), currently no overclocking (FSB=100)

            I recommend bying the 486 fan and heatsink combo that does not have metal screws but only small plastic supports. Then remove the heatsink and jab the plastic support on the G400's heatsink. They fit nicely on it and hold it firm enough.
            Someday, we'll look back on this, laugh nervously and change the subject.

              I GLUED a fan to the heatsink of my G200... just a teeny bit of extra strong glue (mind the fingers) does the trick.

                I used vinyl screws. You can pick them up in most hardware places, and they don't damage the heatsink.
                Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

                  I doubled up. I used a 486 fan & screws by bending the fins. Then I put locktite on the screws to prevent them from loosening up.

                    A small dab of silicon sealant on each corner works nice too. Very easy to clean up as well if you end up removing the fan at some point.
