    It will probably be a similiar arrangement to the bump mapping stuff Matrox licensed from the bitboys. Microsoft "supports" the feature in directx, but unless you already know how to do it, you have license the technology from someone. I imagine that MS would have sought and received some kind of assurance from nVidia that the technology would be licensed to 3rd parties.

      One other misunderstood thing about 3D textures is that people think that a 3D texture applied to a polygon is indeed 3D like voxels. That is absolutely (for now) not the case.

      You have to see the polygon as some kind of knife. Is carves a through the 3D texture and the carved bit is applied as it's 2D texture.

        In my opinion:

        It souds like yet another excuse for clogging the net with more and bigger and uglier banner adds!!!

        Any game that sends actual textures over the net when multiplaying is plain stupid.
