I´m thinking of upgrading to w2k!
my matrox g400 MAX does very well in w98

Is there any problems with w2k?

The most obvious flaw in the Win2K drivers for the G400, besides the fact that they don't work with SMP_1 (which is a flaw but is not as "obvious" and everyone doesn't have SMP), is that the refresh rate at 1152x864 is only 75 Hz. When you have become used to 85+ Hz it kinda "hurts" your eyes! to drop back to 75 Hz. Since this is the prefered resolution for many of us with 19" monitors, the only recourse is to download a copy of PowerStrip to reset the refresh to 85+ Hz.

Just understand that Win2K really is a OS geared towards servers and the workplace. It's not really a "gaming" platform. In particular any EA game won't install! Others like UT don't have this problem. Win2K is a great platform for AutoCAD and 3D Graphics work. It seems to perform best when NTFS is installed. This requires more hard drive space in most cases, but it is more secure. If that's a concern.

I'm going to have to remain in the Dual-Boot configuration myself. Just too many games to play. Though I prefer Win2K for most of my desktop applications.

For me the most obvious flaw is that the dualmonitor feature doesn't work correctly with win2k. You will only have the clone modus or one large desktop, but not 2 seperate desktops as on win98.

And of course a lot of games don't work on win2k, or they run slower than on win98.

So you need a dualboot system if you want to use the whole potential of the G400

You can tell that to whoever you like, Rob_b, but don't bother trying to tell me. I've mostly been playing UT and a little Q3A for the last several months, and have found that Win2K is just as good as Win98 for me most of the time, and good enough ALL of the time.
