Ok, my last reply got lost. Grr...

I can verify that "r_smp 1" still does not work. HOWEVER, programs that were crashing before do not now. 3DMark2000 was randomly crashing unless I gave it a particular processor affinity. Now it runs flawlessly (well, as flawlessly as these drivers allow). Quake3 has crashed almost not at all, at least in "r_smp 0". And I no longer have to reboot in single processor mode!

    So SOMETHING is different.

      Gurm and Co.,

I never said there wasn't anything different about these drivers, I just said that these are only MS Certified. There were no named fixes that I know of in this release.

New drivers brought my 3DMark 2000 default rating from 1200 to 1440 (still lousy for Cel500@563). Of course, it might be all other tweaks I did along the way since running 3Dmark.

But not without problems: my dualhead on DVDMax is now "flickering"; it seems that every few seconds, the picture is turned upside down for a very short time (one frame or so). Anybody seen these kind of symptoms?

Kmode exceptions are back. Not as often, but back.

                Hi there!

                !1200 3dmarks with a celery!?
                i'm with a PII450 and only got 900 something
anyway I've had NO problems with w2k which is not exactly the case with w98(while in 2d everything's perfect but in 3d some crushes happen every now and then)

btw I've got a MAX. Do you think I should not try the drivers?

                thanks

I have the same problem with DVD MAX.

The new drivers fix all my SMP/Bus Mastering problems, so annyone saying there isnt anything new in here well, whatever.

now ALL my games work FINE.

Concerning DVD max, when play a DVD on my TV, every, umm 100 frames or maybe more, 1 frame flips upside down. its really anoying .

Another thing, it doesnt do that with Dual HEad CLone.

Anyone have an idea whats causing this ?

I had a nightmare installing the drivers. I ran the setup and when it was almost done it exited with a message "Instalation was canceled ... file is missing ... "! Oh no... I tried it again, again the same error. I restarted and I got vga 16 mode. Not good. I tried to manually install the drivers and it was even worse, got the same error at the beggining of the installation. I tried to install 5.03 again and IT DID THE SAME THING! Now I was completely confused. I tried again and again, the I went to device manager and saw that the device was disabled. I enabled it, rebooted, and all was fine. Yes, powerdesk was 5.04. I tried a few timedemos and the performance was terrible. Tried to install 5.03 again. Same error. Tried to hack the registry to uninstall all matrox entried, and screwed it, the I couldn´t install any drivers because of a registy error. I the run win2k setup and choose the repair option. Don´t ask me why, but it booted up fine and powerdesk 5.04 was installed. Performance was good now, it even went from 63 fps in q2 to 73, so these drivers seem to be better.

Ok, it works and I´m not complaining, but anyone has some ideas why this happened? I wouldn´t want such a nightmare in the next matrox win2k release, so I´d like to know what I did wrong (it must be me, because I see nobody else had this problem)

did you try uninstalling the 5.03 drivers first?

These drivers do work on the G400 max and actually it is listed in the driver files.

Will not install using the setup though - cannot detect card.

Install using the change adapter / have disk method - worked great, first time - no problems.

                              System
                              Gigabyte GA-6BXD (Dual Slot 1)
                              2 x Cel366@550
                              256 PC100
                              All Scsi
                              G400MAX (AGP x4 Retail version)

Performance and stability is better than previous beta. Performance only 1 fps slower in Q2 at 1152x864 - 32bit running crusher but compared to the 98 5.52 ICD - TurboGL 1.30 under 98 is still quicker.

Stability is much improved - Q2 + others run fine for extended periods and don't hang after 3 mins like the beta did.

Definate improvement over the beta in all respects.

                              Good luck all

Just seen this on Matrox's own forums
The 5.04 are certified drivers and will only work with standard G400 cards (not MAX, OEM or Marvels). It is normal that it does not install for your card. We will have a new set of drivers soon for all cards.
