MXR4LIFE - The reason you don't see anything above 85Hz in that list is that those are what VESA refers to as "Discrete timings". The last addition to VESA discrete timings came with EDID Spec. 1.1 , at which time 1600x1200 and 85Hz was added.

With EDID 2.0 in 8/96, VESA adopted what they call the "General Timing Formula", which obviates the need for any further additions to Discrete Timings.

Many ViewSonic CRT monitors only support EDID 1.1.

Good point Ashley, but I wonder why ViewSonic chose E-EDID rather than GTF? Another important standard to bring up, while we are name-dropping is E-DDC or Enhanced Display Data Channel. This is also part of the new standards VESA announced this year. I like the old DDC feature and this just allows more data to be addressed through the bi-directional channel in the monitor cable. Of course I would like it, because it (DDC) makes it easy to set up a monitor in a Plug-N-Play environment that supports it like W98 and now even Linux! So this is another thing that is controlling how you adjust your refresh rate.
One could, if they choose to, use a BNC-5 cable instead of the standard 15-pin mini D-sub that would cut off that DDC signal. Then they could remove the monitor from Device Manager and re-boot. But I am not recommending this! I still say 85Hz is enough just like 85 FPS would be enough in any 3D FPS.

Last there is the new VSIS that may do away with the old BNC-5 cables so some of us lazy people can enjoy high performance and DDC.
Of course one could use a third party display manager like....ah....oh...what’s the name of the cool one that’s got all of the extra stuff on it? Heh JK PowerStrip

To document some of the stuff I rambled on go here, were I copied it from

MAX4LIFE, I don't believe E-EDID has even been approved yet, much less implemented by VS. Like most companies, they still haven't implemented EDID 2.0 or 3.0 yet...

But, honestly, I know next to nothing about new VESA proposals - they used to be available to the public, as would-be "standards" ought to be, but no more...
