Well, that's a mystery to me JohnT! I wish I could say that Athlon motherboards behaved more consistantly than they seem to so far. But, if it's working now, I'd say just accept it and be happy! I hope the Asus board gives you long, trouble free, service.

I've never had any problems with my K7V. I was actually locking up similar to what you've described, but that was when I installed the 4in1 drivers after the g400. When I removed the g400 and then re-installed it, everything worked perfectly.

on a side note, any of you kx133 owners have quake3? ever since I switched to my athlon system, I crash just before I get to the menu. happens in win98 and win2k.

Well, I've had very few problems with my 7KXA! (Primarily I've had problems with a particular USB controller - the MS SW FFW. That was resolved with the latest BIOS update.) Conversely, I've heard from others, in the AMD Zone forums, who have not had success with the K7V!?! I don't understand it. And I'm not willing to assume it's the fault of the people doing the "upgrade" either. The end result is I don't know what to say!

Just got a Ep-K7XA and everything runs perfect, here is what i did:

          1 updated to BIOS 329
          2 Formated my harddriver
          3 Installed Win98SE
          4 Installed my Audio Driver
5 Installed the VIA 4-1 from the CD (XX,18 i thing)
6 Installed Matrox G400 Driver ver. 5.30 (VERY IMPORTANT TO USE THE 5.30, or every thing will crash!!!)
          7 Installed DX7

Thats all, giev it a try!!! Please do!! And just use the optimal BIOS settings, and if all goes well and stable, TWEAK the BIOS!!!
