  • Is TurboGL v 1.3 any good?

I've been out of the loop for a while, and I was wondering.

Good enough that I have regressed to PowerDesk 5.30 in order to use it (VIA chipset debacle).

No wierd texture problems like the ICD, no strange highlights like the ICD. It's a gaming OpenGL solution.

    Just my $0.02

You have to use the 5.30 drivers in order to use it?? What the hell? Will 5.41 drivers work? This is news to me!

McRhea, I think he's telling you he has to use 5.30 PD because he has a VIA chipset. Most people have no probs, like me

That's strange, I'm running 5.30 on my P3V4X but the TGL setup says it's not compatiable with my current version. I thought that you had to be running 5.40+ to use it.

TGL is great, because of it I was able to get rid of my MillII/V2 and just go with a G400 for Tribes and UT. Perfomance is decent on both (30+fps, 800x600x16 on Tribes and 640x480x16 on UT with max detail settings on both) on a Celeron 450. I'm planning on on picking up a PIII700 after Intel's May 28th price cuts - should get real nice frame rates. The V2 looked a bit better on both, by the G400 doesn't ever lock up.

Come to think of it, I don't think the TGL worked on my 440BX when I had 5.52 installed... But I won't be checking this out again in the near future. I'm getting tired of swapping the mobo in my machine every week.

I'm running 5.52 on a BX board (Abit BM6) with TGL 1.3. Only problem I've seen is that I had to drop back to 400Mhz. At 450Mhz (6*75) I started seeing lockups (just after I posted last night!) so I had to drop the bus speed back down. Weird, maybe the g400 just don't like bus overclocking (even at moderate levels). My MillII didn't give me problems (it was the PCI version, but it was overclocked by the same %).

Running 5.52 and TGL 1.30 on a BX board (Asus P3B-F) with P3-450 clocked to 558. No problems whatsoever :-) Also running CAS3 ram at CAS2 without problems. Even had some PC66 ram running at 124 MHz bus speed for a long time without problems (sold it now, didn't malfunction).

I'd say my G400 Max is extremely forgiving. It can take a lot more tweaking than my CPU can handle.
