So am i reading here that the 5.06 driver will work on the G400 max whether or not you have the RR-G series card ?

Gurm, you wouldn't happen to be a MediaOne user? I had the same problem with the download stalling around 1.15 meg, and I found several other users with the same problem in the Matrox newsgroup. All of them had mediaone.net emails.
I have a support request into MediaOne about the issue.
