  • Interesting Win 2000 problem

    Hello Guys

I have just installed Windows 2000 Evaluation build 2195 and have this in my IRQ settings:

System Information report written at: 02/05/2000 10:29:14 PM
    [IRQs]

    IRQ Number Device
    9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
7 Matrox Millennium G400 DualHead Max - English
7 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
7 YAMAHA Native DS1 WDM Driver
    7 LT Win Modem
7 Promise Technology Inc. Ultra66 IDE Controller
    8 System CMOS/real time clock
    13 Numeric data processor
    6 Standard floppy disk controller
    12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse
1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard

    My system is as follows:

    Gigabyte GA-BX2000+
    Guilimot Maxi fortissimo
    G400Max
    Lucent modem
    Pioneer 6* DVD
    IBM 13.5GB HD
    128MB ram
    Pentium !!! 500mhz @ 560

The only other Wierd thing is that i have disabled USB in the Bios but it still has an IRQ. I can play Quake !!! with no problems and 3dmark 2000 is fine.

    Thanks, Robbie.

do you have the latest bios? looks like you have acpi on. but since you don't have a problem with your system. i wouldn't worry too much about it. like they said, 'if it ain't broken, don't fix it' :P

      What does Acpi do?

Is that the power saving option in the bios?

I have read in other posts that the g400max likes to be by itself on a high IRQ, otherwise performance suffers.

As far as I can tell, the bios settings seem to have little or no impact in WIndows 2000. BIOS Memory timings etc. stay adjusted, but disabling items such as USB or even the internal Floppy Controller (I have a LS120 so I don't need this feature) don't seem to have any affect under Win 2000 - the system still detects and assigns IRQ's to these items which can be very annoying - having to manually diable them under device manager, which leaves an untidy icon with a big red cross!
What do you want a signature for?

            Rob23:

Read the FAQ in the FAQ forum... it will explain all the ACPI madness (I know, I wrote most of it... hehe), but suffice it to say this is a normal condition under Win2k.
