  • Anybody Tried This One? Savage4+G-400

    Hi Fellow Matrox Lovers,

I've had a G-400 DH 16MB card for about 2 months now and love all the features, performance, etc.
(made a nice upgrade from dual Voodoo's)

I play alot of UT ...in fact that's about all I play.

I've read alot alot about S3's texture compression and looked at the screen shots and decided I wanted to see that eyecandy moving on my 21" moniter.

    I found a 16MB PCI S3Savage4 for about $40 and it's on it's way.

    MY QUESTION IS...

Will this PCi card be able to run along with my AGP G-400?

Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated.

    SYS=

    PIII @ 800mhz
    Abit BH6 MB
    128 RAM
    8.4 Gig HD
    G-400
    3-com NIC
    Diamond Homefree NIC
    Crappy PCI sound Card
    1 Open PCI Slot
    Hitachi DVD
    Panasonic CDRW
    Philips Brilliance 21" moniter

P.S. If this doesn't work that lil' Savage will be ebayed ASAP.

Well, PCI/AGP combinations are one of the ways people get a dual Monitor setup (other than buying a Matrox G400 Dual head), so unless there are any issue with these cards cooperating together, there shouldn't be any problems as long as you resolve all memory, Irq conflicts etc that could arise when the computer assigns rosources.
What do you want a signature for?

      So has anybody done a G-400 / Savage4 combo?

Or even a Matrox/non Matrox combo? (besides voodoos)

      Curious about those setups.

Ive done a G200AGP and S3 virge before, and that worked. I think you will find that the Savage4 is aa little slow for you though.

They are fine at 640*480, and 800*600 should be fine with your setup, but I think the G400 at 1024*768@32 wll look nicer than the savage.

I had a savage for about a week, when I fell off the Matrox wagon (downgraded from a g400 a Gforce SDR, returned that, and had a savage on loan while waiting for a new G400). The savage isnt realy all that nice. Thats why they only cost $40.

Good luck though, andeven if you end up hating it, at least you will have learnt something.
