Try to connect directly to the TV or if you're going through a VCR or LD player and THEN to a TV, purchase a "video enhancer" that will take out the Macrovision protection.
I have the latter setup and bought the Video Clarifier w/c is sold at Priceclick.com.
Works fine but macrovision is (still) barely noticeable with slight dimming on and off.
I asked the same question a while ago and got the following reply. It works every time :-)
"Try this...
start the movie ( the movie track after all menus...)
press pause
somehow go to display proprieties...
go where you adjust the resolutions, ...
click advanced
go to Monitor settings TAB...
Click 'adjust the current display mode'
then, when you see the monitor pattern, click cancel...cancel...cancel
this sould make the driver forget that it was in macrovision mode...when it returns
press pause, to continue the film...

Working here, 100%. This way I have recorded many DVDs to VCR with no macrovision.
The DVD Player that came with the G400 has a control panel ...
Check its advanced options, goto the audio tab and set to surround compatible (or whatever it is labeled) and the sample frequency should match your sound card's capabilities, e.g. 44.1 or 48 kHz.
Cheers,
Maggi
Despite my nickname causing confusion, I am not female ...
Normally I use the SPDIF for dolby digital, but when I want to tape the DVD I want the sound to be recorded with the next best option,(as Dolby Pro Logic?? Thus with 5 channels) Because the dolby digital can't be recorded.
Is this possible?
