I've got a K6-3 400 & a G400 Max on an MVP3 based Epox board and this combo aint so hot. It's slower for gaming than the same rig and a TNT1. I wouldn't recommend it. The Max is great in an Athlon though. For 2D it's fast.

As you already have the cpu,so the upgrade path is out of your hands,so to speak,I reccommend the Epox mvp3g2 or 5.
My current system is as follows:
K6-3 400@450
Epox mvp3g2
G400(16 meg)2x pd 5.52
128 meg pny memory
Quantum 9.1 gig+ka hard drive(udma66)
ls 120 super disk
etc.
The system is stable,all games are quite playable.tgl won't work without manipulation, this is the only knock I've encountered
So this is what I reccommend based on personal experience.
