  • Running 3 monitors and a TV at once?

I have a friend (okay he's not a friend, he's my boss and I'm trying to kiss a little ass here) who has put together a system with the help of Dell to monitor his stocks. With the machine that I'll list below, he wanted to link up 4 28" monitors, 3 to opperate seperate stock related programs and trading sites and 1 to watch CNBC for real-time human reports, all with one G400 MAX card. It upset hime to say the least when I told him that it would only run two monitors and wouldnt give him TV output.

My question is, is it possible to do what he wants with only one computer? Money is no object for him (Hell, he had a room and a $10,000 cabinet built for this setup but its built only for the one computer). The only way I can see to do it is with two G400 MAX's (one AGP and one PCI IF they have the PCI's out) and a Marvel but is one machine and Win2000 going to be able to handle 3 cards with seperate programs on each?

Forgive me for my ignorance, I happen to be one of the few content with one Marvel. B-) Thanks in advance for any help!

    System:
    733 PIII w/intergrated 3com 10/100
RIMM, 256MB, PC800 @ 400MHz (lost me on that one!)
    Matrox G400 Max
No sound card listed on packing slip that he gave me.
    4 Gateway 28" Monitors w/ stereo speakers.
    Windows 2000

    Dammit panick!??!

Is your boss Bill Gates? He's certainly in for some stock monitoring .
Well a simple solution by Matrox is a G200 MMS... check Matrox site for more details...

No TV out on those cards, though.

Keep in mind there is no Win2000 drivers for the version with integrated TV tuner.

That way your boss can have up to 18 monitors all at once (not sure if OS would like that )

        Edit:
TV-out can easily be solved with buying a small VGA to PAL converter, and attaching it to one of the VGA-outs.

I would suggest a G400 (Marvel if he wants the editing features) to drive the primary monitor, and the TV, and a G200MMS to run up to 4 additional monitors.

G400 does not come in PCI.
G200MMS does, and is available in 2 or 4 monitor configs...

Sure its possible. I am using a system with the following 4 cards right now:

            - G400SH-16MB (AGP)
            - Savage4-32MB (PCI)
            - Voodoo3-16MB (PCI)
            - TNT2/M64-32MB (PCI)

No compatibility problems at all, and two of these have decent working TV-out. This is on a K6-500/VIA MVP3 system running Windows 2000 - not your most friendly hardware.

Anyway, if the slots are available, these 4 cards together cost less than half what a G200 Quad costs...
