Considering you sit no further away than 10 metres from me you know all about the tests I've done today
Right, as the last post here says it would appear that my case is incompatible with my G400MAX (LOL)
I'm not convinced that the card is infact sitting correctly, my MAX is working fine in 2x mode on another PC.
So I can either try the mod which Birdy talked about (BTW, thanks for that) or go for a new case purchase, my old one is looking a little worse for wear.
