  • wtf? Updated bios on G400, now get no video till w2k starts!

Updated G400 BIOS to 1.6 using ubioswin.exe, shut down the box, restarted.

Now the card is a dead stick 'till w2k starts. No post screen, no ntloader screen, no nothing. First time I get video is when the win2k GUI starts. What the hell? If anyone has a guess about this, I'd be thankful to hear it.

i just ran it from an explorer window in win2k with no problems(usa,est)...your problem sounds like the vga chipset portion of the g400 isn't "enabled" or being initialized, did you try reinstalling the drivers?

The bios is now corrupt, use the emergency disk you should have created, or use the matrox bios recovery utility.

And how can you make a emergency disk under win2k?

          Rattledagger,

you now have to use msbackup(...start > programs > accessories > system tools) to create the emergency repair disk...no more rdisk...

Chucky Cheese, I think you misunderstood me.
Re-written is my question: How do you make the Matrox BIOS recovery disk, to restore the BIOS on a Gxxx-card if the BIOS is damaged?

I can add this question: How can I upgrade the Matrox BIOS from a dos-floppy?

It's too late now, since the bios is corrupt. Didn't the update program ask to make one? The DOS version does that. I've never used the windows versions. Now you have to use the recover utility, which you can download here:

              http://www.matrox.com/mga/drivers/files/ftp_util2.htm

Maybe it's not that dramtatic yet ...

Boot into windows , launch the BIOS udpater and have a look whether 'DOS to TV out' is enabled.

Most VGA monitors cannot handle PAL refresh rates and hence you might be fine when setting back to normal state.

                Cheers,
