1280*1024 on TV NOT possible with G400max??

Hi,

i can't set the dualhead-clone-tv-output at 1250*1024 (i can set 1024*768 max). According to the G400 specs this should be possible, anyone know how to do this?

i am using powerdesk 552 under w98.

TV output's max res. is 1024x768, but If you connect a Monitor to the 2nd output it will do 1280x1024

who wants 1280x1024 on a TV anyway?? it's unreadable

Tv's are analog, they dont have x number of pixels, or x resolution, they are A-N-A-L-O-G.

To the request above, I run 1280x1024 fine to an output, clone, or dvdmax

Yep - Arsa's right - VGA is most definately analogue - the only pure digital systems are the special connectors for Flat Panel displays. Again as everyone else says - Michel - why 1240*1024 for TV? Not only will this high resolution slow down your card's performance - but at the same time, the dot pitch on a TV is way higher than a Monitor - even at 640 * 480 the image on a TV screen looks good - jagged lines are pretty difficult to see. Any resolution higher than 800 * 600 is overkill anyway - a TV simply cant pick out that sort of detail - so it all goes to waste.

Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as I know the resolution that a TV can display is limited to either PAL or NTSC resolution (unless you are using a HDTV). The G400 doesn't actually display 1024*768 on a TV - it just displays a scaled version of that res. , which corresponds to either PAL (625 lines) or NTSC (525 lines).

Exactly - a television is indeed limited by the number of lines it can display - all extra information is discarded - that's why resolutions such as 640 * 480 and 800 * 600 look best on a TV screen - less is lost - more is displayed.

I just want to clone my desktop to my tv, my desktop is at 1280*1024. I can't set the tv resolution to 1280*1024. Why is that? is it a PAL restriction? from what Zyn says it IS possible??

or is moleman right, can 1280*1024 only be done with a second monitor and NOT with a TV?

I found the answer in about 30 seconds on the matrox website:

TV-out NTSC or PAL at resolutions of up to 1024 x 768

If all you want to do is clone your 1280x1024 desktop on the TV, there is a workaround: Set up your DualHead Zoom hot keys, and use the DualHead Zoom feature and select the entire desktop.

(Actually, since 1280x1024 is not 4:3, you won't be able to select the entire desktop; to get around this, switch to a 4:3 mode, such as 1280x960.)

I use this workaround all the time to display my 1792x1344 desktop on my TV with no problems. (Text is not readable on the TV at that resolution, but I use it to display full-screen graphs so that I can monitor some statistics when I'm away from the keyboard.)

Thanx hunsow, i didn't check Matrox's site but went for Ant's instead. There i did find out that the G400 was capable to do 1280*1024 TV-OUT. looks like Ant was wrong (isn't that impossible )

hmm just went to Ant's site and it also says 1024*768. Damn i don't know what was wrong with my eyes yesterday. Well thanx everybody for helping.
