Millenium G400 Max on 133MHz FBS

Hi,
Right now I've Asus P2B with 100MHz SDRAM.
I've read that replacing this memory with
133MHz SDRAM on 440BX boards, gives a very good increase inFPS rates.
My qustion is: Is anybody did (successfully) this upgrade on this motherboard with Millenium G400 Max installed.

I assume that you'll be overclocking the board once you get the 133 ram. I think that once you have done this you get an agp speed of 89Mhz - quite a long way out of specs. I've heard all sorts of stories about this, some Matrox cards work okay at this speed (but need to run at AGP x 1 in order to work). Some cards won't run at all.

My personal view is that I don't think it's a particularly good idea to run the card on a hugely overclocked AGP bus. In some instances it can fry it after a while (I know someone who experienced exactly this with his G400 Max).

Your motherboard may have an option where you can set the AGP speed to a percentage of the fsb speed so you might try this.

Anyway, experiment if you like, but be careful and bear in mind the implications of overclocking.

I'm currently running my MAX at 140 FSB with a P2550e -> 770. It's stable after running 3dMArk2000 twice and some racing games. I had to bring the AGP down to 1X though to get it working. 2X consistently refused to work. I hope this helps.

I used to run a similar setup (P3 550E @ 770 w/140 FSB) on a QDI BrillianX 1s/2000 with my vanilla G400. It worked great, even with 2x AGP. Don't know about the P2B though, AFAIK it's a pretty old mobo so you might not have that much success. Good luck though!

Just checking. Do you mean just putting PC133 Ram into your machine, and not doing anything else. If this is what you mean, then you are not going to get much of an improvement. You could change your CAS to 2 and get a little speed increase (guessing 1-2 FPS).

If you are talking about overclocking, then try it first with your old PC100 RAM. you should at least get to 112Mhz Front Side Bus.

If you are looking at overclocking then go to a site like www.overclockers.com or even www.tomshardware.com and see what they have to say about it.

Your G400 should be fine at pretty much any speed that your CPU can take. Then again, some people have had trouble at 133 and above.

If you are talking about overclocking, definitely try your old ram first.
I have 2 64mb sticks of PC100 that do fine at 140mz!
I switched to PC 133 and only got to 142.
If you are just talking about swapping out ram without overclocking, then that will have no noticable effect.

I have never, let me repeat...NEVER heard of anyone burning up a g400 with an overclocked agp slot and I doubt I ever will

Im currently running a BE6-2 with a PIII-600E at a FSB of 145 - i.e. the 600E is doing 870MHz no problem. My Vanilla G400DH is fine at the AGP speed of 97MHz - no problems at AGP2x either. My memory is 133MHzSDRAM.

Go for it - its a nice way of getting more 'ooomph' for your pound. Of course, you need to have a chip that will overclock too!

Just wanted to say that I, like DuRaNgO[MU], never have heard about anyone destroying their G400's due to FSB overclocking.

By the way, mine runs 89 at AGP 1X, well sometimes it actually does 2X (Depends on the weather!?!).
