If you can afford to wait a while longer, I'd suggest waiting a while for the i815 boards to be released, since they show the greatest potential (Intel can't afford to screw up again). I agree that the best choice at the mo' is a good BX board. I can recommend the MSI BXMaster, since I've worked with that and was totally blown away (no comparison to my ViA 133 powered Advance 9 - if only I had a 100MHz CPU instead of a 133MHz!)

Surfer, I know you already singled out your decision, but I just wanted reply to EchoWars.

I have the same motherboard, the be6-I and the hp controller on mine was the shits too, I ended up having to totally disable it. It got me into so many interrupt conflicts, it made everything suck ass. Now that it is disabled, my system is working out great for once, how could they buy such crappy hardware.

Anyway, good to hear someone else had the same problems, I guess I will have to hold out on ata/66 until I get my next mobo.

Surfer I have an i820 motherboard and it works fine, a Supermicro P3-SCA, it takes a bit of a hit using DIMMS but it is future proof. And we can always live in hope of cheap RAMBUS..... but then again probably not
        .

Yes, but when Rambus will get cheaper, SDRAM will be even cheaper. And the Thunderbird with PC133 SDRAM scores about the same as a Coppermine with Rambus in recent reviews

                  Surfer,

A good Slot1 BX board will do just fine. I have an Asus P2B-L that has never skipped a beat in 2 years of constant use.

If you have some time and some cash, I
                  would recommend this combination that
you can overclock to your heart's content.

May I suggest an Abit BF6?
$109, no hassles, works with your existing parts, killer for overckocking that 450.

Do not spend your money on the i820 unless you're also prepared to buy RDRAM. It's extremely slow, easily surpassed by a VIA 133A not to mention the BX. Which BX is not outdated - the only thing it misses is an official 133MHz bus and all this implies (1/2 AGP and asynchronous memory bus). The UDMA/66 can be obtained from an addon IDE controller in case you decide for a BX motherboard without this type of facility directly on-board (you also get the ability to run 4 IDE master devices). You might also wait for the i815. But, honestly, there are plenty of GOOD and cheap BX and 133A boards out there.
                          Asus A7V, Duron 600@900, 192MB PC133@100, G200, Guillemot MUSE, etc.

I appreciate every one's help. Any idea when the i815 will be out. Tom mentioned that it will be out in july, can someone confirm that? And will it support 100 fsb as my 450 has a 100 fsb. I am not sure if i could wait that long for the i815 unless it's got something of real value.

                              thanks again.
