  • G450: Resolution of second head?

One of the problems I had with the G400 was the limited resolution of only 1024x768 for the second head. I thought the G450 was going to fix that, but I didn't see any mention of that in the press release.

Does anyone know whether the second head support is limited in any way? Or more specifically, can you drive two 1600x1200 monitors in at least 24-bit color mode?

    Thanks.

p.s. Do you think Matrox will ever come out with a PCI bus version of this to allow multi-board support for 3- and 4-monitor displays?

    Hi Curtis,

there must be something terribly wrong with your setup, because I use the 2nd VGA in 1280x1024x32bpp@75Hz ...

Did you config your monitor manually or do you use DDC (PnP) ?

    ...

Matrox offers Dual- & Quad-G200s & -G100s for multimonitor setups in PCI flavor and the actual drivers support up to 17 monitors under W98 ...

Don't know whether they'll do a G450 in PCI though.

    Cheers,

The information that came my way on the G450 was that the secondary output would support a maximum of 1600x1200 but this has not been confirmed in any of the official press releases that I can see.

As Maggi says with the current G400 the maximum resolution of the secondary output is 1280x1024 that's what I run mine at, you probably have a monitor config problem.

As for a PCI board, well with the G400 they said there would be no more PCI mainstream boards from them, but a little teaser they left in their latest beta driver mentioned a G450 PCI board.

You're right - the G400 limit was 1280x1024, not 1024x768. My mistake! We like to use dual 1600x1200 21" monitor setups, so that was still a problem.

I'm glad to hear that a higher resolution is expected. Will be interesting to see.

          thanks for the feedback...
