Periodically reflash Matrox BIOS once per week?

Is there a virus out that attacks Matrox cards, zero'ing their BIOS to nothing?

Was'nt there the issue of a practical limit to the number of BIOS flashes that can be performed before the chip goes a bit flakey?

don't know, but I remember some releases of PowerStrip that indeed did damage G400 BIOSes ...

Interesting that they only released it for pre-G400 cards though.

I don't know if it's important, but I've been running a G200 AGP in my Compaq Deskpro 6000 for a month now without needing to flash the BIOS.

There is no Flash chip on G-series cards, it's serial EEPROM. Depending on its type it can be programmed from 100000 to 1000000 times.

The problem is that under some conditions the chip gets erased. Thus refreshing it periodically is not a bad idea.

I don't know why you would do it weekly. I have had my bios corrupted twice since buying my G400. Sometimes EEPROMS get corrupted or loose data. It's not often. I know of cases where a manufacturer got a bad batch of them and they need to be replaced. I would say if you are the paranoid type then monthly should be more than often enough.
