  • Why should I buy G400TV ?

I am mostly into Graphics, webdesign and DTP. I use Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Iluustrator, Quark and Autocad etc. (heavy apps)I do play some games.

Can someone give me a valid reason NOT to upgrade to a G400TV ?

Any potential bugs, shortcomings or compatibility issues that might affect it?

Will 16MB as opposed to 32MB affect it too much ?

Because your handle is "Matroxian" and "ATI-ian" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue?

You might want to consider a G450 and a Rainbow runner. Then you'll get a board designed with content creation in mind and have a video capture/editing/TV tuner as well.

This might involve a bit of a wait. Matrox has announced the new board, but it hasn't started shipping.

Never mind about the G450. I just saw a picture in another thread and it seems to be missing a connector. If you need the additional RAM, and you might, there's always the G400 and a Rainbow Runner.

I would get a 32Mg board and think about an alternative to capture/watch video.

I have a G400 and am not able to capture without frame drop.

Others have complained that they cant capture with the built in Zoran MJPG codec chip without frame drop.

I would get a card with much more than 16Mb of ram to work in 3D, the extra ram outweighs the TV function IMHO.

If you need something now, I'd go G400+RainbowRunner G.

If you've got cash to burn ($1200), there is the Matrox RT-2000 (based on a G400 flex board).

If you can wait a while, I think it probable that Matrox will release a G450 based counterpart to the Marvel-TV. It's become apparent from the recent pics of G450 that it will not support RR-G...
