  • Just a question about P3V4X motherboard and VIA chipset.

I am considering to buy this board, I heard that with the old drivers(4,17) it performs more then the newer ones in 3D, if it's true the BIOS 1005 has corrected the problem ? I heard that with VIA's 133a you could have registery problems.

I heard a lots of thing

I heard that G400 had problems with this board, I know it is sertainly VIA's fault, but is PD6,0 had all corrected the problems ?

    Help will be needfull.

    Thanks

My concern is with growth. You must grow to become one, to become whole, to become sane. I am not going to force sanity upon you. Rather, I am going to bring out your insanity. When it is pulled out completely, throw into the wind, sanity will happen to you, you will grow. You will be transformated. That is the meaning of meditation

as far as I've read, the newer AGP GART driver 4.03(???) allows the use of the latest driver release from VIA to be installed without a performance hit on the Asus P3V4X...

As for the PD6, Many on here report that most of the problems have been solved and it is running very well...

this is definitely a combination to concider...

Thank you, but I really need that the owners of that board(or ather VIA 133a) respond.

The only question I have are you technically minded? If not stick to Intel if so go for it.

i have an asus p3c-2000 ..the store where i bought it are only going to change it for an asus p3v4x ..the p3b-f is imposible to find here and i815 isn´t for sale yet..
i wanted to know if it´s stable under w2k and w9x..the performance i´m sure it´s going to be higher than the p3c-2000.

            Hey guys,
I just put in an Asus P3V4x + P3 600E and have not had any problems with it in either Win98SE or Win2k. Seems to be a fairly stable board for what I have been able to do with it. One of the first things I did was to play Asheron's Call which was cauing my Asus P2B-S to crash all the time.
From what I have seen on alot of different boards is that the new drivers from Via and Matrox (beta 6 for Win98SE and Beta 5.10 for Win2k) have resolved a lot of issues and improved stability. Let me know if there are any more questions I can try to answer.

The P3V4X is pretty much the cream of the crop as far as the 133A chipset boards go. Would be my first choice. The Tyan Trinity 400 would be my second (and is my current board). Both good choices. The latest BIOS and the latest AGP drivers have solved whatever problem the Asus board had with earlier drivers.

G400 works well, but 4x AGP is busted with latest PwrDsk drivers (no great loss). Main recommendation: buy GOOD memory. I have excellent luck with the Mushkin Mostel stuff. Do not skimp here..

If you are going to be running Windows, Win98SE is necessary for top performance and most stability (as much stability as Windows can give you anyway). And do not mess with the VIA 4n1 drivers...download the separate AGP driver and install it...nothing else is needed (or wanted, for that matter) with 98SE. Simple deal, but this is where most screw up their system, trying to load drivers that hose the system, or at least hurt performance.

                I'm currently using a P3V4X / PIII 600E@800MHz / G400Max combo, and it runs very nicely.

EchoWars' advice about RAM cannot be emphasized enough. This board is very finicky about RAM. You should use PC133, CL2-Rated SDRAM and let SPD set the timings, or performance will suffer.

In addition, a lot of people have had problems using older UDMA-33 hard drives in the first IDE channel, which natively supports the ATA-66 standard, myself included.

This is a great board for the PIII 600E, as the jump to 800 MHz is about as easy as these things get. Another board to consider is the CUV4X, which uses the Socket 370 interface.
