  • Purplish bands between text lines on second monitor

I'm thinking the problem here is the monitor, but figured I'd run it by the experts here.

On my second monitor, a 5-year-old 14" cheapie, I've got puplish bands filling the space between lines of text. These lines get darker the closer you get to the right side of the screen. Put another way, the more letters (or anything of a dark color) there are on a line the whiter those lines are. Lots of text means no purplish tinge even at the far right edge.

So, any chance this is because of a bad G400 or motherboard? Or most definitely the monitor failing? I ask becuase when searching for similar posts on deja people seemed to often blame other components, but none had these exact syptoms.

One further symptom: ever since I dug the 14" out of the basement to hook it up to my G400 I've had to turn the brightness all the way up to make it even close to acceptable in brightness.

Is the primary output working OK? If so, put the questionable monitor on the 1st head and see if it works OK, or put your good monitor on the 2nd head and see if you get these lines again...

I put the monitor on a second computer, and the problems remain. So it seems to be the monitor. My only question then is whether the G400 could have caused this. I suppose not.
