Overclocking 440BX to 133mHz and G400

Can anobody tell me if I can succesfully overclock my 440BX chipset tot 133 mHz and my G400 DH to 89 mHz without destroying my G400? Or is it save to do this???????

I don't know what mainboard to buy. I have a ASUS P2B and want to buy a ASUS CUBX or if my G400 can't cope a ASUS CUSL2 ( Intel I815 Solano II)

You should be able to. However other factors come into it like quality of memory the CPU you've got. What processor have you got? The G400 should be okay although in some cases some have had to force agp x1 to get it to run properly.

I found the biggest stumbling block is with your hardrive, use udma33 or lower if you have probs and be sure to give it enough VOLTAGE

If you use quality components you shouldn't have any trouble with a G400 series card on a BX Chipset @ 133 FSB. Some tips I'll give you is to keep the airflow in your case moving. Use a card cooler on the G400. Buy (use) a HDD that is good for OCing ( IBM GXP series, WD Expert series). Don't use Maxtors! Get some good PC100 or PC133 RAM. I've had a G400 Max up to 96 AGP bus (144 FSB) on a BX chipset for more than 3 months with absolutely no probs whatsoever using Siemens PC100 @ cas 2 @ 144 FSB ! Bottom line is:

good parts and mucho cooling.

I accidentaly had my G400 up to 100 MHz once. I was playing around with CPUCool and it's SoftFSB function, and bumped the bus up to 100, assuming it'd automaticly adjust the AGP and PCI busses to the correct ratio. I had the Asus Temp Probe running at the time, and I noticed the fonts started "shimmering". I loaded up Sandra, and it said the AGP bus was running at 100, PCI at 50. I shut the poor thing down immediatly, and managed to avoid frying my PCI cards, my G400, and possibly my harddrives too.

Well you shold be able to do it with no problems for G400 I run it @124FSB right now could do 133 but then my RAM is not good enugh ,I should buy 133RAM then I assume that it will be OK..I tried with my friends 133RAM & it worked fine but with my 100RAM7ns didnt.

BTW, I could not get PIII667(133)or PIII650(100)COPERMINE to run on my older ASUS P2B mobo with latest bios 112 so , Iv change it for ASUS P3BF..ofcourse I paid a litle for that but now Im happy...

At the moment I have a P-II 400 (Not a celeron). But with my new mainboard I'm gonna buy a P-III 750 or 800.

What would you guys advise me to do:
Keep my asus p2b and overclock it (with my P-II 400) or buy a new one with a via chipset or i815 solano II with a P-III 750 or 800??????

Be wery cearful with P2B & NEW Intel COPERMINE Processors, as I said before I could not get it started with ASUS P2B (bios 112)...& Im for INTEL chipset so I advise 815E ,CUBX or P3BF or other brand BX mobos...

Get a Soyo 6BA+IV or MSI BX Master. Two excellent, hi-quality and stable BX Chipsets.

Borg you may not be able to run it at 133mhz unless you've got a recent proc. Mine will reach 124 MHz but not run at 133mhz despite trying 1.85 volts.

Get Asus P3B-F. I have mine running at 150Mhz FSB (100Mhz AGP) with Matrox G400 DH, Coppermine 550@825 and the cheapest PC133 RAM. I have tested the same hardware on Abit BE6-II and the most I could get was 126Mhz FSB. P3B-F is the only mother board!

If your P2B hardware revision is pre-1.12 the coppermines and cel2's won't run unless you up the vcore to 1.8v. This because it can't go any lower. Just remember to get sufficient cooling.

Azagal: How did you get your P3B-F up to a FSB of 150? mine only goes to 133. Have to agree with you, I love the bios, the options are so easy to use. I love calling my modem and having my computer turn on. (don't mention functionality)
