  • SGRAM or SDRAM on G400

I just got a OEM G400 SH 32 mb card that is supose to be SGRAM. I have heard that some come with SDRAM how can I tell by looking at the card if it is SGRAM. Also, does anyone know what memory, speed wise, is being shipped on retail cards and maybe how to tell speed from part number. Here are the memory chip markings:

    HYUNDAI KOREA
    HY57V65322OB
    0016A TC-6

    Card Part Number is G4+M4A32DG

    Thanks, Jeff

If you go to your display properties, click the "advanced" button and look at the "information" tab, it will tell you what kind of RAM it has.

maybe I am completely wrong on this, but I thought that SGRAM has pins coming out of the chips on all the 4 edges, and SDRAM only from 2 sides, since that kind of memory uses less connection pins???

Of course this assumption can be completely wrong....

I also once heard that Matrox made it's own memory (remember WRAM?)... recently I heard that the graphics core chips were manufactured by NEC, so who know who does manufacture the SGRAM?

Also, your card supports AGP 4X...hope your mobo does too

I don't remember who made the memory chips on my card, but i'm sure it wasn't Hyunday...sadly...they're supposed to be the overclockers friend...usually 6ns chips (166mhz) can handle around 183 mhz(at least mine do that) but Hyundays...try like 200mhz+...very good stuff...

        Take good care of them
        My system:
        PIII 450@558
        Abit BE6
        128 Mb Hitachi PC100 RAM
        OEM G400SH 16MB@160/180
        (MGA Tweak Sys clk 360/2.25/2/2.25)
        IBM 10 Gigger
        SB Live! value
        Hyundai 17" monitor

Oh yeah, PD6.10+TGL1.30+DX7.0A, all this on WIN98SE...

Well the card is 4x but the motherboard is 2x. There only apears to be connectors on 2 sides of the ram. I did a search on matrox's site and came up with nothing. I have not installed it yet so I cannot goto display properties.

However, I recently upgraded my motherboard and ram to Intel VC820 and RDRAM from Intel SE440BX-2 and PC133 SDRAM. So my MAX is running at 4x and with the new chipset and RAM technology seems to be no faster. Keep that in mind before you give up your SDRAM.

          Thanks, JP

Found a picture of a MAX and it's memory has connectors on all 4 sides of the chip. Then I re-read the add and of all of the Matrox G400's they did not say what type of memory on this model. Oh, well mystery solved SDRAM. No bid deal, besides, it's going into my ex-girlfriends computer.

            Thanks for your responses, JP
