  • Almost totally dead G200. Really need help.

    Hi everyone.
I have a virtually dead G200 card. Basically, the card will work as a secondary video adapter (secondary to an s3 Virge PCI), but will not work atall on its own. The trouble all started when I had to put in a secondary PCI card on an old LX motherboard, for a demonstration. Windows recognised the PCI card as the primary adapter, and the G200 as the secondary. After removing the PCI card the G200 would no longer show the POST screen but would boot into Windows 98 and display everything fine. I was none too chuffed by this and started fiddling around trying to reset my motherboards BIOS, as I decided that the board was searching for a PCI card as the display at startup (there were no options in the BIOS to change this). However, the G200 then stopped working on its own altogether.
There is a 'no video card' POST beep now.

I have tried the Recover utility from Matrox, but to no avail, it reports that the BIOS is invalid.

Strangely, SiSoft Sandra reports some odd info about the G200 when it is operatnig as a secondary adapter, saying that it has the BIOS from the S3 card.Hmmmm.

I have had no joy from Matrox tech support, I cant even work out how to send an email to then that will actually be read by a human being.

PLease try and help me out as I am a poor student and cannot afford a new card. Someone had to give me a 2Mb S3 to use in the meantime. PLease take pity!

    CHeers

You might try the tools from MatroX files

Here's where to go for official help.
      http://forum.matrox.com/cgi-bin/mgaf...ation&number=1

If this link doesn't work just go to www.matrox.com and look for tech support forums

Your problem CAN be sorted out, and if TS blames it all on the sound card driver (VERY possible).

If your problem is solved post back in here with the solution, someone else might be able to use it.

      Good Luck!!

But I thought you were a poor student that could not afford another card. Doesn't sound like to me that you tried very hard to fix the G200. Also the LX motherboards are well known for their poor AGP implimentation. But now that you have your GeForce you will probably be better off by going here www.rivazone.com

I have now bought a GeForce 256 Pro. It was the best decision I ever made, i would advise everyone else to dump Matrox. Crap cards, Crap BIOS, and even worse drivers.

                Cheers
