Will Win9x multimedia hardware drivers always be way ahead of the Win2k counterparts?

I'm wondering if the gap will ever disappear between the quality of Win9x multimedia hardware (video & sound mainly) drivers and their Win2000 counterparts.

It seems just about EVERY newish popular piece of multimedia hardware has MUCH MUCH better Win9x drivers than it has for Win2k. Will this always be the case and will we always just have to settle for 2nd best when it comes to Win2000?

My NT5 drivers kick a**. Anyways 9x will be dead next year so I guess we will never find out.

Win9x was supposed to be dead by 98, back when windows 97 was being made, then after that NT5 was supposed to merge the two OS's together, then whistler was supposed to do it. None of those came to light. Now it's neptune that is supposed to be the death of win9x. I will believe it when I see it.
