I've had a G400MAX for almost a year. 8 months ago, id released q3radiant, allowing everyone to make their own quake3 levels. I get hooked, problem is, it doesn't work with the G400icd. The card doesn't even try to load textures. Ok I think, even the geforce cards had a slight problem (slowdown while moving curved objects) I can live with software mode for a while...
A few weeks later the geforce problem is fixed. I get new drivers, but these ones crash q3radiant even before it finishes loading. I notice that it does load the textures before it crashes, so I'm ok, it's being worked on.
The next driver version (5.30) seemed pretty good. It worked! Well, almost: textures got lost when you go near lights, but it's not fatal, you can hide them. The problem was for me that occasionally, looking at curves would lock my computer up solid. I would have to reset my computer.
At this point I'm getting tired of using software mode, I get 0.5 fps, while geforce owners move around in q3radiant faster than I do in quake. At about this time I lost a lot of work to a freak defrag accident, and so I give up on map editing, hoping that when I come back later the drivers will be working.
Last month I finally gave in and loaded q3radiant again. I've tried every version from the 5.34 to the 6.01 drivers and I still get the exact same problem I had with 5.30!
I had reported all these bugs back when I first saw them. This annoyed me quite a bit to see nothing had been done. So I try out M's tech support forums..
After a little runaround I get an admission that q3radiant has had some reported bugs.
Even the 3dfx icd has worked fine with q3radiant for months now. I think the g400 is the last card that doesn't.
Other than q3radiant, there's one other problem that I've been having but otherwise my card has worked perfectly.
Which is to say I havn't had 100% stable system since I bought this card. I know for a fact I'm not doing something wrong with the g400 systems I've tried to get running, which only makes me wonder how anyone got theirs going 100%. The only thing I haven't tried is a 4x capable card.
Enough rant.
Why I'm posting this:
1) I'd really like someone who does have their system 100% stable to test out this program for me. You'll need to have quake3 installed. Then you can install q3radiant (7 megs). Simply load up the q3dm7sample map and use the arrow keys to run around it for a while. If you can, leave the program running overnight and then test again (sometimes it works for me, but eventually it degrades to the point where I can't even open a map, curves or no curves).
2. Write to Matrox. Tell them that we want a bug free G400icd. One that works with Q3radiant. 8 months is simply far too long to wait, and I know I'm not the only g400 user who's tried out this program.
Thanks,
Rob
