Best Drivers for a G200 Marvel?

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I've been off the boil for a while.
I've just Dusted off my old G200 Marvel and built a secondary machine.
I just wanted to know which version of powerdesk and the videotools would work best together and will also let me run games like UT.
I downloaded the latest version of PD which supported the G200 Marvel, which worked flawlessly with the videotoos, but when I ran UT all the floors and walls were just plain black.
Oh, I'm running Win98 by the way.

You seem to be using OpenGL for UT ...

Simple answer: use D3D instead ...

OGL is still very buggy in UT and afaik they did abandon the support for it.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I am pretty sure that I selected the D3D device during the setup as I know of the poor OGL support.
I'll check it when I get home tho.
Could it possibly be a bios update issue?
Can't remember the current version, but it definately hasn't been updated since Last year when I got my MAX.

Go ahead and update your G400 BIOS, just in case use the uninstaller and re-install drivers & video tools ...

You mean G200 Maggi. You don't have to use the drivers that Matrox recommends to be used with VideoTools, just use the latest drivers. They will work just fine there is just no support from Matrox should you get in trouble.

Hmm, okay,

Definately selected the D3D device during the setup of Unreal Tournament.
Updated the G200 bios, but still get the Black floors and wall using the 5.55 Powerdesk.
Used the uninstaller then reinstalled 5.55, but got the same thing.
Uninstalled again and went back to 5.41. all works ok.
I'll try the newest PD tonight and see what happens.

To solve black screens in UT with the G200:
During the game, hit ` (on the same key as ~) and type 'preferences' (without the quotes) in the console. That should bring up the advanced menu. Now find and disable multitexturing (!) and close the window to get back to the game.

For me, even the multitexturing trick didn't work. I resorted to using 5.41 until the 6.0x betas came out. Both seem to work fine for me, with no black floor/wall trouble.

Sorry to hear disabling multitexturing didn't work for you, what resolution/bit depth did you play in? In my case, the old drivers didn't fully work. Sure, there were no black walls/floors, but there was also no light maps in D3D, making the game look very dull compared to OpenGL mode.
